Cold, but nice

It is a beautiful place worth a visit, but very cold to drive up with a motorcycle. If you do, get some warm clothes.

When we first went here the light wasn't right for the photos my husband wanted to take and we walked 3 km on the trail. Having cars drive by us made us realize we could drive it. We came back a second time on a very windy day and it was very scary. It really is an amazing place to... More

We were lucky enough to have a clear day when we flew in and, I believe, we got the best view from the airplane, the colours, the detail of this volcanic island. There are many trails which you can hike to get a wonderful view. Absolutely worth going. (We went in June 2012, before all the beautiful flowers bloomed but... More

What are you waiting for? Hop on a plane and go. The entire island is beautiful. The people are lovely and food is excellent. The lakes and the parks are well cared for throughout the island. Find a trail if you can (they are often poorly marked) and take a hike or just lounge by the lake. Pack a picnic... More

Sete Cidades is the place to visit for amazing views and landscapes. We drove a dirt road (that is also a hiking trail) along the south edge of the caldera to the Miradouro do Rei viewpoint. Panorama photos could not do justice to the views of the lakes, cinder cones and caldera on one side and on the other side,... More

The view from the "Miradouro do Rei" is very nice (it is in all postcards). But go also to the "Lagoa do Canário", where you have a less know view point (you have to climb some 200 meters) but the view from there is breath taking

I would recommend visiting Cidades in the morning as it is often cloudy or foggy in the afternoon. We hiked around the rim, which took a out 4 hours including an hours break for a picnic lunch. A mass of spring flowers in May greatly enhance the stunning views. There are numerous trails and hiking options.

We found a magical spot in Green Lagoa. We've upload the photo. It is a small road who goes along the water. It ends in a place for picnics. We were alone, we and the silence. Very rare in our days...
