If the weather's clear, the views are stunning but be warned that at certain times of year the caldera are shrouded in clouds. We had to go twice as our first attempt was fogged out!

Don't miss this beauty. Amazing views driving into and out of the area. The lakes are magnificent! The driving was white knuckle all the way.... but worth it :)

So long story short, the walk is 11 km from the top of the volcano all the way around the rim down to the crater of the volcano and the town Sete Cidades. My personal issue is that I am afraid of ledges (or heights where there is a ledge) and I have a problem with my left knee that... More

A truly overwhelming place. The landscape is beautiful, you can freely walk for miles around the two lakes and appreciate this place's quietness and peacefulness, birds chirping being the only disturbance. My only advise would be to pay attention to the weather as it seems a bit unstable in this area, varying from rather hot and humid to somewhat cold... More

I had the misfortune of hiking Vista do Rei on a very cloudy day - so cloudy that there wasn't a view of anything until my way back. But that view! So beautiful. There's also an abandoned hotel on the hill overlooking the lakes and I thought exploring that was very interesting.

My partner and I hired a car, but there was a tour bus up there no public transport. this is a must see out of this world view and so green you can walk down to the beach but long walk back up a long hilly slope.

We took an excursion from a cruise on P&O`s Oriana. Unfortunately the day was cold and grey and therefore we did not get the benefit of the colours on the lakes. However the guide was most informative and the scenery around the island was spectacular. It is well worth a visit but check weather first.

I came here in one morning in May 2015. I parked at the "vista do rei" parking lot and at first it wasnt sunny yet but still view is nice. I decided to go for the trail of about 2 hours (recommended !) and on the way back the sun started to come out, This turned the 2 lakes (blue... More

This is a must see when touring Sao Miguel. The view of the blue and green lakes was beautiful. The weather can be tricky, but we managed to capture some beautiful pictures with and without clouds. The little town next to the lakes is very quaint and worth driving/walking through.
