A natural beauty and wonder! There are many angles to view this and each one shows a better view than the next. Our guide started at the top and took us all the way down and we rode over the bridge that divides the lake. A beautiful area, quaint homes and village as well. Just Beautiful! A must see when... This is breathtaking and best appreciated on a clear day. The viewpoint, called King’s View, is quite remarkable and not to be missed. You will look out to the dual lakes and have an extraordinary view of the natural beauty that is Sao Miguel’s treasure. There is a monstrosity of an abandoned hotel in the back, but, fortunately, this does... More

Definitely worth doing all the roads that come into this caldera. Take your time on the high roads with the views. The town is small with nice recreation options on the lake. We were there in November so kayaking and swimming were out but we had a nice walk and lunch down by the lake.

There are no words to describe this wonder of nature.I would advise to rent a car,put on a pair of walking shoes adn just start exploring. All the region is a network of walking trails but they are difficult to reach with a bus that's why you should have a car to get nearer to the sights. It is very important for... Obviously one of the major draws to the island. Particularly the view from Vista do Rei (King's viewpoint) complete with the obligatory hydrangea sneaking into the photo! The contrast between the green and blue lakes is amazing. (As others have said the weather can change quickly and not advisable to visit if low cloud is likely). Drive down to the... More

This is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. The view from the Vista do Rei viewpoint is spectacular on a good day, and you will clearly see the difference in colour between the blue and the green lake. Make sure you also visit the abandoned hotel standing behind the viewpoint for an even higher view over... More

Great views of the lake all along the trail. Most of the trail was like a dirt road. Last 1 KM on the 11 KM was all downhill on a muddy path

Located in the northern part of Sao Miguel in the heart of volcano country, these crater lakes are quite spectacular. Futurismo jeep tours do a great job of getting you there and the drive itself is worth the price of admission. Sandi is a terrific guide!
