Stunning scenery

Even on a cloudy day this place is quite awe inspiring! We left Ponta Delgado in the drizzle with no real expectations and were so happy when the clouds parted specially for us!

We traveled up although the top of the mountain was hidden in thick cloud. What a nice surprise to find that there was still good visibility inside the crater. Disappointing not to see the lakes from above but still worth the visit.

This is a "must-see" attraction. We saw it from afar on a hiking trail then drove to the main miradouro (viewpoint). We then drove down to lakeside, which was something of a disappointment. The view is the main thing, so make sure the weather is good!

There are a number of view points along the road to Caldeira das Sete Cidades and it is worth stopping at quite a few of these as the views are fantastic. When you approach the village you can also stop on the causeway between the lakes and get a good view at ground level. This place is well worth a... More

We experienced CdeSC on two different days (one cloudy, one clear) and whilst very pretty (and an obvious draw for tour groups), the road and town at the bottom of the caldera by the lakes rather spoil the outlook when compared with the far more beautiful Logoa do Fogo in the middle of the island.

We were taken there by Seazores and were very lucky that the sun presented us with all the possible shades of green and blue with flowery patches of the crater. It was spectacular. The other option to experience the lake is to take a circuit on the ridge of the crater, but that is reportedly about 30km walk, so you... More

This is a simply stunningly picturesque location. The twin lakes are very definitely one green and one blue, especially when the sun is out. The outlook from up top is spectacular but it's also worth a drive down to the bottom to see it from a different perspective. There is a nice small village with a lovely church and a... More

Stunning don't miss it. We booked with green zone Azores. Our guide Ricardo couldn't do enough for everyone. We had the full day excursion with lunch provided. This want just a lunch it was a 5 star dinner break at a great restaurant with plenty of wine and soft drinks.
