Unfortunately, quite a bit of fog. The terrain and scenery are of high quality. The information at turnouts are nicely made. The current roadmap that one obtains is inaccurate. The crater rim drive is nice, but is basically a dirt road.

A massive amount of green.. The drive to the location adorned with hydrangea's on the sides of the road.. Nature truly at it's best. If you like it here I would recommend visiting the Lagoa Do Fogo.

The Blue and Green Lakes in the crater of Sete Cidades were beautiful to say the least. I would highly recommend taking the jeep tour of the crater rim. There were some spectacular views. We went with Green Zone Jeep Tours and had a great time. This area is a must see if you are on Sao Miguel.

In April, we joined a crusie excursion to Caldeira das Sete Cidades (Crater lake). The bus took us to the top of the mountain overlooking Cidades. Although it was not a sunny day but we still can see Crater lake clearly. It was not like what people said with one part green and the other part blue. Maybe the sun... More

Be sure to drive up there on a clear day. Low clouds can hinder an awesome view. However, the misty clouds did give us an awesome experience as well.

you can see it on a good day. But a fantastic site. We were driven around the full perimeter and also saw it from the lake edge. One of the great sights of the Azores which, in any case, is a must visit destination

When you reach the top of the mountain overlooking Cidades, you really need to pray that the fog has lifted. It is a beautiful site. If there is fog, you can go down a ways from the mountain and there is another viewing point that may not be as foggy. I am now talking about driving there and not hiking... More

Everything we saw, visited, tasted, walked through, every local we spoke to, was an amazing experience. We tried to walk around the caldeira but at one point we realised that we could'nt continue forth nor go back (due to a hurricane taking place two weeks earlier) that destroyed all the paths and directions. It was completely dark, so we called... More
