Spent the morning touring the volcano but it was too cloudy so we headed down the mountain to the park that has access to the hiking trail to the lake. There was a naturally heated waterfall there and a thermal fed pool that registered around 34C. Beautiful plants and scenery.

Hiked around at the top of the mountain at Lagoa do Fogo. Lots of little trails that branch off along the peaks. Hike down the different trails to change your vantage point and get some amazing pictures. On a clear day the views of the island are absolutely breathtaking. A great way to spend a few hours hiking and taking... More

Absolutely beautiful place. We were there in January and it was very windy and had been raining. If it has been dry, this would be a fantastic place to hike down, have lunch and hike back up. A must-see spot on Sao Miguel.

A lovely way to spend some time on the island is to attend walking tours. We walker on four different tours and on this one it was slightly rainy and foggy. However when up on the top the weather changed and the fog left and we got a lovely view over the lake and later a refreshing swim. Recommended tour!

Drive there on a sunny day- the view is spectacular at every stop along the drive. If you are expecting 'bells and whistles' this won't be for you, but as an all out one-of-a-kind locale, make the trip. The road is quite typical, narrow, steep- so plan according to the weather. Stunning.

Stopped here as part of a day tour and it was simply breath taking. You could easily spend a day walking along the top or wonder down and explore the bank. A must see visit but I would suggest visiting early as it gets very busy just before lunch with lots of groups stopping. Only a couple of viewpoints from... More

This is the nearest of the caldera lakes to Ponta Delgada, you can drive to the top ion about 20 minutes. It is a single roundish lake with some fantastic views, but the first time we went it was cloudy and the visibility was down to a few feet, so we had to go back the following day. Mid-morning the... The ride to get there is thrilling in itself up the mountain s-curve roads.. But high in the mountains is a beautifully colored gem of a lake. Take time to go to all the view spots to capture different changes especially for picture taking. PS bring some scraps for the stray doggies waiting at some of the stops waiting to... More

Park at the very top and hike down to the crystal clear water, where you will find serenity. Water was cold but refreshing. Only took about 20 minutes or so to hike from the top to the bottom, a bit longer on the way up!!! We were the only ones in the trail.
