As soon as you see the clouds clear the mountains head to Lagoa do Fogo. The view of the lake is breathtaking! From the top of the pass you can see both the north and south sides of the island. It is well worth the drive.

Bus from Ponta Delgado to Agua de Alto walk up through pastureland and woodland with great views over to Santa Maria and Ilheu de Vila Franca to Lake Fogo, have beach on the south side of the lake to yourself and enjoy a cooling swim before descending down the waymarked path alongside levada channel in a steep sided valley. Finish... More

I guess the best way to visit the lake is to use your own wheels. Just get a car from the airport or Ponta Delgada; normal vehicle will work fine, no need for 4WD or SUV. On a way you can also visit the tea plantation (unique for Europe) and part of the thermal bath called caldeira; geological meaning is... More

The lagoon is one of the most beautifull things on earth. It's stunning and breathtaking. Being surrounded by only nature you can stand there for hours and be overwhelmed with it. A must go! See weather before you go to make sure you have the most of the experience!

It's a bit of a crazy drive to get to the top. Had to gear down to second to get enough torque to make it up there. Practice driving a manual transmission before you attempt this. You can probably take a tour, but the drive is easy once you get used to driving in Sao Miguel. Wait for good weather... More

Drive to the view at the top!! And walk up to the towers... Its breath taking!!We hiked down to the lake with our young daughter in baby carrier, which was a little step but an easy hike. We had a picnic lunch on the lake and put our toes in the water!

Just drive up the hill, coming from ribeira grande you will pass Caldeira Velha where you can make another stop to take a hot bath under... More

We were fortunate to be there on a very sunny pleasant day in September 2015. The view was an amazing, and when we look at our photos all the views are really different and all are gorgeous. A total must to visit.....you won`t regret it....as this is what you are in The Azores to see!!!
