I personally thought it was better than Sete Cidades because of the stunning views. There are several geothermal plants on the way and the hot springs is just down the road where you can take a really hot bath with a hot waterfall and a small museum... I don't understand how folks can give 3* due to weather. We were... More

The view of the lagoon is gorgeous and the trail down to it was accessible for those limber enough to be able to take large steps as some of the steps are quite deep. At one point, you must turn around backward and go down a wooden ladder. Our hiking skills were quite adequate so we were able to get... More

Our tour had a very common problem, we were completely unable to see due to the dense fog. Though it was a gorgeous day on just about every other part of the island. Apparently, our tour guide informed us that there is a live web camera and website available to aid in planning your trip. Sorry, I don't have the... More

Traversed this road in the fog and barely saw the road. Decided to wait til we could see the top and headed up. Way better without clouded.

We took full day 9 hours, with "Amazing Tours" ( see my other review), highly recommended. This place is magical, the view is incredible. First we went Sete Citades and surrounding area many natural beauty and landscaping, then they took us to Lagoa do Fogo, you will see so many spectacular surprises in this tour, that you will never forget.... Following on from Adam's good tip below, if you are travelling from Lagoa it is the third miradouro from the top. There are usually a number of cars parked there on the right hand side of the road. It is a steepish 20 minute hike down and back but worth the effort as then you can walk half way around... More

We went to the highest point overlooking the lake and marvelled at what we could see. A shimmering, blue lake that had hardly a ripple. It looked like glass from up high. We spent some time walking down the trail. There were other trails that encircled the lake higher up, but they seemed a bit too far for our limited... More

Many reviews discussed a short-cut hike (20-30 minutes) down to the lake, but none provided details as to where the hike begins. So here goes: If you are traveling from Ribeira Grande, stop at the first miradouro (viewpoint) of the lake, which is also the lowest elevation of the viewpoints. The trailhead begins here at the far right-hand side of... More

We stopped there on the way from Furnas to Ponta Delgada. Very beautiful view. We wish we had more time to hike all the way down to the lake. It looked very nice and quiet around there.

Wonderful view. Very serene place. If I lived on the island, I might come here to sit and read a good book. As a tourist, the best I could do was snap some photos and hope they do any sort of justice to this amazing vista.
