The walls of the castle from the outside are impressive but once you are inside there is very little left of what must have been! The walk around the inside and the views over the area are good. There is a rest area in the internal gardens and the café but very little else of interest especially to history buffs!

LONG walk UPHILL, parking very difficult. Rarely any English langage, little inside, can be difficult walking, paths, rills (water courses,) esp. if older etc. WARNING two castles at Casta Marima( Port. on Spanish border, MUCH worse.

The history surrounding this majestic castle is impressive and the views over Silves are amazing. One gets to walk around the castle walls as well as see a room reserved for the memory of the local mountain cat (lynx).

If you are going as a history buff, you may wish to avert this site. The Castle itself has been butchered with an awful red brick garden made up in the middle, and the most peculiar looking cafe in the center. There is no history to find here. The walls have some lovely views over them, no complaints there. There... More

No clue how anyone could rate this as interesting. there're no signs or explainations at all, old walls nice and fine, but stones cant talk! in addition they kinda built a brick walled garden in the middle of the castle?? at least the entrace was only 4 euros

Visited with friends who were over on holiday. They throughly enjoyed their visit as well as the views from the castle. Will certainly recommend it as a place of interest.

I've very much enjoyed this Moorish castle, it has many interesting things to offer, besides the old walls. It has 1 or 2 rooms with some mini exhibitions of objects, including pottery, from ancient times, also the large Cistern, used to collect water (any fortress would need that in those times, for the long periods of isolation), including panels explaining... You can see it used to be a big, probably magnificent castle, but not much is left, except for the outer walls. If you don't treat it as a museum, but more as a pleasant place to spend some time - it is very nice, but if history is you want - you will be disappointed. Inside the walls there... More

Been there three times now...the best view of the city and surrounding countryside. Historic, peaceful not to be missed.

Beautiful village in some of the best scenery I viewed in the Algarve. The views from the castle are spectacular. Super cheap entry fee 3euro each, and it was worth every penny to see the country side from the parapets. Well worth a visit.
