No clue how anyone could rate this as interesting. there're no signs or explainations at all, old walls nice and fine, but stones cant talk! in addition they kinda built a brick walled garden in the middle of the castle?? at least the entrace was only 4 euros

Visited with friends who were over on holiday. They throughly enjoyed their visit as well as the views from the castle. Will certainly recommend it as a place of interest.

I've very much enjoyed this Moorish castle, it has many interesting things to offer, besides the old walls. It has 1 or 2 rooms with some mini exhibitions of objects, including pottery, from ancient times, also the large Cistern, used to collect water (any fortress would need that in those times, for the long periods of isolation), including panels explaining... You can see it used to be a big, probably magnificent castle, but not much is left, except for the outer walls. If you don't treat it as a museum, but more as a pleasant place to spend some time - it is very nice, but if history is you want - you will be disappointed. Inside the walls there... More

Been there three times now...the best view of the city and surrounding countryside. Historic, peaceful not to be missed.

Beautiful village in some of the best scenery I viewed in the Algarve. The views from the castle are spectacular. Super cheap entry fee 3euro each, and it was worth every penny to see the country side from the parapets. Well worth a visit.

There are no rails or signs at this castle and the walkways are a bit wobbly to say the least. So if you get a bit squiffy about heights take a friend you really trust! They are excavating the foundations which are easily observed and the views from the turrets and walls are great. They appear to be doing extensive... More

It's a quiet place in the middle of the touristic region of Algarve in the south of Portugal. When the tied is up you can catch a boat in Portimão, a bigger town and come to Silves through the river. It's a very nice and pleasant trip. Then go up to the castle guarded by the huge statue of king... More

As part of the Historical Algarve tour we went to Silves and saw the old church and the castle from 7th century. You have to pay around €2-3 each to get in. The castle was destroyed a little due to a massive earthquake, so mostly ruins - worth a look around but will be done in a short space of... More
