Faro is worth a visit but is not over-endowed in enclosed shopping centres on a cold or damp day. Not that you should only visit the museum during inclement weather. The museum is found in the old town just follow the storks on top of the arch - or at least their nests. The entrance fee of 1 euro is... More

This nice museum is one of the few things Faro has to offer. It is quite lovely and you can visit it during a 1h walk.

It was a cold, windy day in February when we visited this lovely museum. The entry fee was just 1€ per person as we were asked if we were pensioners. The building – an old cloisters – is stunning and there are many surprises to be had when you step through a low arch or through a heavy wooden door.... More

I had planned a day exploring this whole part of Faro, and this was the part I looked forward to the most. It was definitely nice to visit, but the other things I saw that day were much more exciting. The exhibits were well done, though, and the building itself is gorgeous. There was a room with beautiful paintings, but... More

The building is worth a visit but what made this visit extra special was the 'private' concert given by Joao Cuna, a magnificent Portuguese Guitar player. His presentation with a history of Fado and its music was very instructive.

Enjoyed the building itself and all the archaeological exhibits. The religious paintings by talented artists were interesting if a bit sombre.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this wonderful little gem. Joao Cuna gave us a wonderful recital and explained the history and origin of this wonderful fado music. The museum is also very interesting and for the very low price of only five euros it is a wonderful bargain.

What a lovely museum. It is set around cloisters and a central garden, and the exhibits are presented in themes, eg synagogue, grave stones, and you are invited to exercise your imagination thinking about the lives they represented. It is fairly compact but well worth a visit.

You can learn a lot about Faro and its history. The fine arts gallery is not advertised, but excellent - ask for guided tour.
