We were lucky enough to be within walking distance so visited a couple of times... Sat having a drink watching the sun go down, kids played in the pools at lower tide and jumped off the cliff too, even the 10year old...very brave! Worth a visit....

Walked here on the board walk from Carvoeiro with three children aged 9,7 and 4. The kids were very keen to explore the rocks which we did after giving them strict instructions not to run! The rock formations were amazing, really stunning, really pleased we explored them.

If you are staying in or near Carvoeiro you must see this sinkhole and visit the restaurant/bar O Boneca. Take time to walk along the cliff path along the recently well constructed boardwalk.

Algar Seco is one of Carvoeiro's special features. As well as enjoying the unique rock formation and a ramble around the old steps in the cliff, you can walk through a tunnel in the rock to stand looking through a "window" in the cliff face, and let your imagination run wild. Lovely in the evening as the sun paints the... More

Algar Seco on the outskirts of Carveoiro. rocks have been worn down in to interesting formations. there is a wonderful story behind how the caves were created - legend has it that, long ago, there lived a beautiful princess called Princess Alfanzina, who fell in love with a poor coaler (a carvoeiro). Her father disapproved of the relationship between his... More
