Part way through this extraordinary maze of rock formations, I passed a Scot who gave a lunar verdict to the place. And he was right. This is something to see and walk through..a network of caves, roughly hewn steps and the occasional fisherman perched above the waves. In the lower sections try to avoid standing on crabs, and at height,... More

the place is just amazing, a must do when in the algarve! it's easy to reach from carvoeiro main beach, facing the beach just go climb on the hill to your right and follow the indications to Algar Seco Parque it's more or less a 10 mins walk/3 min drive

There are several companies operating boat rides to see the caves along the coast and they can be found in and around the beach at Carvoeira. We went on a trip that lasted about 90 mins which I think was more than sufficient. Don't get me wrong, the caves are really amazing to see but a bit like all the... More

We walked the boardwalk from the church overlooking Carvoeiro beach to Algar Seco whigh was an easy and very pleasant walk. One point along the way allows you to get down the cliffs, with a bit of scrambling, to the sea and some of the small caves and "pools" made by the sea. Wouldn't fancy doing this in flip flops... Great to scramble around the rocks - nice little cafe down there two. Good to walk along the boardwalk and then turn off down one of the little paths through the rocks.

I would suggest going here in the evening for a sundowner. You can walk around the various rock formations and have a cocktail and snack at the bar.
