We day tripped up from the Luz area - we can see the mountain from here so it was natural to want to see more. Drive was easy, up through Monchique then increasingly up hill to the top. Once your brow the hill you get to see further north as well as the vista of the Algarve to the south.... More

Well worth a visit & very easy to find from Monchique. Stay on the 266... There is also a mountain trail road narrow & hairpin bends for the more adventurous. We went that way but came back on the longer but safer 266.

After the hustle and bustle of Albufeira, a lovely drive up the highest peaks in Algarve. Roads good, not crowded at all with a restaurant/gallery/shop at the top. Well worth a visit to cool off if nothing else.

We did visit Foia, on our trip out of Algarve, going through Monchique and Caldas, through Ourique and North. In my opinion is worth the trip, is a nice viewing point of Algarve, albeit a little far away from cost. If you want to recognize anything bring a binoculars, otherwise the features are difficult to recognize. There is a small... More

We decided to take a trip up to Monchique while in the Algarve. It's a very nice little village to visit if in the area! We asked at the local tourist information place to see what we can do in the area and proceeded up the mountain to reach Mnt. Fóia's peak. The roads are in good condition, and there... More

This drive is so worth while but would be a real tree when the temperature soars, as it is so much cooler on this mountain top than at sea level. The view is wonderful and remember to take a stone to add to the cairns on the top. Most of the Algarve is laid out in front of you and... More

At 902 metres, Mount Fóia is not exactly a mountain, However, it is the highest point in the Algarve and we were lucky to have a clear day and could see for miles - all the way to the Ocean. It is easily reached by road and there is plenty of parking at the top. As with many mountain tops,... More

The drive through a forest, step dirt roads (you can avoid them) and the eerie feel the low hanging clouds gave made it a cool adventure. We have no clue though how the view is as we were only able to see about 10 meters ahead. So on a bad day, for those looking for a special experience when planning... More

The views from Mount Foia are absolutely stunning, we just sat and took in the views of countryside out in front of us. There is also a lovely gift shop in the car park area which also thankfully sold refreshments. The stones which were piled up everywhere were interesting and made for a good photo too. I've read on here... More

Foia is the name of the highest point of the Algarve, in the Serra de Monchique. It is accessible by road from Monchique. It has 902 m of elevation. On clear days you can see the Atlantic Ocean.
