this little town was once a mining town. The mine was owned by a british person and they employed portuguese from all around the little villages to work there ( my father in law worked there). A lot of the british owners brought there families out there to live. The old tennis court is still visable at the side of... More

Interesting for a walk on a sunny day. Visited about 8 years ago, stayed in the Lovely Hotel in centre. Nothing much has changed, thought more information boards or trails would be helpful. Museum was closed on a Saturday which was a disappointment. In the centre near the Hotel is a nice bar and restaurant run by a local family.... More

A small piece of heaven on earth: quiet, relaxing. with very much to do and visit, in the Mina itself and around. a pleasant 3 to 4 day journey worth every bit. Once you go there, sooner or later, you'll be wanting to return once more.

You can then explore the huge area... More

Close to Mertola and a few km of the Spanish border this little village was raised and became famous because of mine digging explorations (Iron, gold and silver). Since the 60's all the mines have been closed and today what you'll find is something like a abandoned city in an amazing decay condition. In Sao Domingos Village there's a tourist... More
