The Groeninge Museum is the main art gallery in Bruges. It is a attractive modern building with the paintings well set out, with each room covering a different period. The Flemish Primitives are the most well known and to my eyes the best paintings on show. I just wished there was more information in English about each painting and what... More

I was in Bruges during a rainy weekend and I was looking for something to do indoors. I read about this museum and decided to go. The scenery leading to the museum was beautiful. Since it was raining everyone was wet and had umbrellas. They were extremely extremely strict about bringing belongings into the museum. You were forced to check... More

This small museum is Bruges’ most celebrated art gallery. We went there especially for the rich collection of their superb Flemish Primitive and Renaissance works by Jan Van Eyck, Gerard David, Pieter Pourbus, Hugo van der Goes, Petrus Christus, H. Memling, Jan Anton Garemijn and Auguste van de Steene.

.......but this place is worth a slow walk around. Unbelievable selection to view and some of the Flemish Primitives are fascinating.

This museum has a very rich collection of art covering six centuries of visual art. Great collection of Flemish primitive paintings as well as 18th and 19th century neoclassical works and some post-war modern art. Dedicate at least an hour to this museum.

I see there are other reviews on here about the attitude of the staff at the Groenige Museum. It is truly shocking that they possess no customer service skills. The woman at the ticket desk on the morning of 19 March should be sent on a customer service training course. I arrived at the entrance around 10am to find about... More

Great historical overview of Belgian art fro the 13th century through to Modern times , most amazing of all were the books of hours with such intricate details and in a good state of preservation.

Seeing the work of Jan Van Eyck close up was amazing. Be prepared to put your bags into a locker and your coat the in the cloakroom - and remember you need your ticket!
