Small charming museum

It contains the master artists of the Netherlands during its high point in history. It is very well laid out -- and is of a size that makes it easy to see.

This is a lovely small museum set in pretty gardens. The museum gives you a good summary of Belgian art with an emphasis on very beautiful Flemish painters. It is worth noting the Bosch's Last Judgement is being restored at present. The Gruuthusemuseum is closed for renovation. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this museum.

This museum specialises in art from the local area and by Flemish artists. There is a wide range from the six centuries. The museum is on a single (ground) floor so it’s easy to navigate from room to room without missing anything. The first few rooms are very early religious or historical scenes. I particularly like the depictions of ‘Hell’... More

I have visited this museum many times, probably more than 5 now. I do enjoy looking at the paintings I have come to count on, such as The Last Judgement by Bosch. I also enjoy any temporary exhibits they have. If you like paintings this is the museum for you! Very nice selection of museum gift items if you have... More

Its what a gallery should be.It's calm and cool inside and the galleries flow gently to the end and the art can me examined closely but not touched. Bags have to be put in lockers which is a good idea. We really enjoyed it.

The Groeninge is a great little to mid-sized museum filled with Flemish paintings from the last six centuries. Artists featured here are Jan van Eyck, Roger van der Weyden, Hans Memling, and Jan Provoost. Together these paintings give a good look at Flemish life in centuries past. Unfortunately, the painting I wanted to see the most, Hieronymus Bosch's Last Judgement... More

I am not a great museum lover and rarely chose to go into a museum instead of roaming the streets and absorbing the town atmosphere. That being said, Flemish artists are one of my favorites. Their paintings are so clear and alive that I can spend long moments observing them. The Groeninge is the only museum that I visited and... More

I liked the range and variety of eras covered in the museum . The focus is on medieval art but there are excellent paintings from other centuries. The visit is a journey through history and the changes in focus and style become clear. It is worth a visit as long as you enjoy art!
