Fuelled by watching the movie the monument men we had to see the Madonna and baby. Would have been good to have had reference to this theft in the church. Mass refurbishment is going on. It is what it is....

Of all of the highlights in Brugge, the Madonna with Child is argueably the most famous icon located in the city. The recent movie "The Monuments Men" centers on the search and recovery of several iconic art pieces including the "Brugge Madonna". The Church is undergoing massive restoration efforts and most of the interior is covered in tarps and scaffolding.... More

The church needs a lot of restoration, but we were happy to pay the small fee required to see the statue. It will be nice one day to return to see the church in its full grandeur.

We did not see clear signs with the church name anywhere. It's under extensive renovations inside and only a portion of the church is open for viewing. The area where Michelangelo's statute is located has a 1euro fee to be allowed in. The remaining area that is not closed due to construction is free.

It was so neat to see a Michelangelo Madonna outside of Italy, especially one featured so prominently in The Monuments Men. The Church itself is fantastic, but once you've been around Europe you look for the things to set it apart. Church entrance is free but there was a small fee to see the Madonna (1-2 EUR)

For €1 it is worth a visit to see Michaelangelo's Madonna as featured in the film 'Monuments of Men'. The 12 apostles are quite beautiful. The pulpit is very grand.

A must see attraction even though the interior is being renovated. A very spiritual atmosphere. Do pay to see the famous Madonna and Child sculpture, smaller than expected but beautiful.

Walking along Rozenhoedkaai we got our first sight of this fabulous church in the form of its iconic tower. The interior is marvellously varied. The central nave with side columns and marvellous ceiling is awe-inspiring. The view leads to the altar and high cross. The pulpit with its ornate carved staircase is lovely. There are numerous sculptures and carvings. Michelangelo’s... More
