Very cold and not like a church and more like a museum! Which was a pity. The madonna and child was good (it's wasn't behind glass as some people have stated) but is closed off so u cannot go up close and no flash photography is allowed. Worth the €3 but wouldn't pay any more

The church and the tower are really beautiful, but due to lack of tourist signs and many construction works around the church we and many other tourists couldn't find the entrance to visit the Michelangelo's sculpture and after about 45 minutes turning around we finally found a woman from museum and...she told us that the entrance was on the other... Much-needed renovations are only a minor inconvenience, and the highlight - Michelangelo's magnificent white marble Mother and Child are still featured, although now behind glass (*sigh*). Some lovely examples of Renaissance Flemish art and lots of surprising, somewhat hidden, treasures to discover in every part of the church. If the sun is shining outdoors the indoor light is just superb... More

We were very disappointed with this church but it was because of the building work which has closed much of it to the public. I hope that when it is restored, the statues and artwork are in a better state. Plus the fact that it was freezing cold inside so we did not stay very long! I felt very sorry... More

Had an extra day during a business trip to Gent and made the drive to Bruges specifically to see this church and Madonna statue. While the church was under significant renovation, I was so delighted to see the sculpture, I truly didn't care. While most of Michaelangelo's statues (including the Pieta in Vatican City) are now behind glass, the glass... More

This beautiful church is a treasure for those interested in art history. Michaelangelo's Madonna, the sculpture at the center of the search in the George Clooney film Monuments Men, is here in a side chapel. Sublime. The church also contains the elaborate tombs of Charles the Bold and his daughter Mary. In addition, crypts reveal medieval tomb paintings. There is... More

I absolute love a church and have been to most of them in the big city's throughout Europe. This has to be one of my least favourites it seemed to have no character no charm no warmth. We paid to see the Michelangelo which did not move me in any way maybe because your 20ft away from it ?

The church itself is a little run down, and we didn't find it very interesting, but to see the Michelangelo made the visit very special indeed.
