The Beguinage is a must to see, but you should read about it before you go there. There is not much of an effort to interpret the site and only a couple small text panels help you with the story. At a time when women's lives lacked the kind of independence we know today, the Beguinage must have seemed amazing.... More

A beautiful enclave amidst the hustle and bustle of busy streets, beside the "lake of love" the Beguinage allows time for a gentle reminder of life at a slower pace. Only a very small fee asked to look around inside one of the houses, if you should choose.

This is a sort of retirement settlement for older women of the city as well as a Bendictine convent and so a lovely atmosphere pervades.

What a beautiful spot in the middle of this busy little city. You walk through the portico and it's like being in another world - lovely trees and beautiful buildings. A quiet reflective place well worth a visit.

Quiet oasis in the busy city. Walked round the square and into the church. Beautiful houses surround the square and nuns pop in and out of the buildings.

If Bruges itself isn't quaint enough for you, visit here. Still the home of Benedictine nuns, the Beguinage is a beautiful, calming place. A broad courtyard of grass, trees and flowers surrounded by picture perfect white Flemish buildings, signs welcome you in but specifically ask for quiet. You can stroll through this tranquil area and visit the charming chapel, provided... More

We came here to admire the area but also enjoyed a visit to the beguinage house which was an example of the house a beguinage would live in. The houses are still female owned and no men are admitted after 6.30pm!

I found all of Beuges tranquil and relaxing, a real achievement considering how busy it is, but this area was particularly calming. A little away from the main sights, but Bruges is tiny and it's easily walkable. Alternatively both the horse and carriage tours, and the waterway tour, will take you through this oasis. Visit and breathe!

This is a wonderful peaceful place now lived in by Benedctine nuns..I went in to the chapel where a small service attended by nuns was taking place..in spite of notices asking for peace and reflection..there was some idiot taking flash photos of the nuns at prayer..he should have been shot!!!

We walked across Bruges to reach this and it was well worth it. A calm oasis in a touristy city. Peaceful and quiet, much bigger than the Beginjnhof I have visited in the Netherlands and seemingly a different history behind it as well. Certainly worth a visit during your time in Bruges, plus take some time to extend your walk... More
