Tranquility at it's best

The Beguinage was a lovely tranquil place to simply wander and languish in the peace. The entrance across the bridge is very decorative if you remember to look up!

didn't pay the 2 euros to visit the historic Beguin house but rather wish I had done so, as there was no other information at the site and my guidebook was not very informative. Very beautiful and peaceful and the walk from the centre of town takes in a number of lovely historic houses along the way.

Very peaceful and very beautiful. Might not be everyone's cup of tea as there's nothing to "do", but definitely worth a visit.

When I walked through the gates, I was aware of the peaceful, beautiful surroundings. The history of the Begijnhof is so interesting and worth finding out about before visiting the place. Spring flowers were just showing through. This place was one of the highlights.

It took us a while to find the Beguinage ( originally a retreat for women wanting a vow of poverty but now home to an order of nuns). There is signage everywhere to ask for respectful silence so it was a little disconcerting to see tour guides with groups loudly explaining the history of the place. The local church was... More

definitely add this to your travel schedule. The area is beautiful, the chapel is impressive and if possible stay for the 4:30 vespers. Area around Begijnhof also worth the walk. We did walk from the Markt area and it was certainly doable and picturesque.

it's absolutely free, just wander around and enjoy the silence and the beautiful little houses and the park - especially beautiful in spring - it was a convent-like recluse for spinsters from the nobility, now there are real sisters living there, (and they rent out most of the houses)

Beautiful place to stroll around and look at the smal houses, the nice little restaurants, the lovely old threes and the magificent lake... you also can visit the begijnhof, for centuries, nuns have lived here. On the place there is also a stop for the horses and the chariots...

This place is simply lovely, you can stroll around, have a look at the gorgeous architecture, enjoy the silence, all that within a few minutes from the town centre.
