Peaceful

A serenely peaceful area, once inhabited by the Begijns ( nuns). Interesting museum, depicting one of the homes.

Visited in early March 2015 and whole area of Beguinage is very serene. Unfortunately no flowers out when we visited - too early in year but still a lovely setting and well worth a visit whilst in Bruges. We went into the church there and one of the nuns was at the pipe organ practicing which was just lovely to... More

A pleasant hour spent just wandering around the square of houses and as you are asked to wander round in silence it was a change to the busy main square

Should be seen. An interesting history dating back to the crusades. Learn about the way of life in the Bequinage and the women who lived there. Don't miss the church and the museum.

The Beguinage was a lovely tranquil place to simply wander and languish in the peace. The entrance across the bridge is very decorative if you remember to look up!

didn't pay the 2 euros to visit the historic Beguin house but rather wish I had done so, as there was no other information at the site and my guidebook was not very informative. Very beautiful and peaceful and the walk from the centre of town takes in a number of lovely historic houses along the way.

Very peaceful and very beautiful. Might not be everyone's cup of tea as there's nothing to "do", but definitely worth a visit.

When I walked through the gates, I was aware of the peaceful, beautiful surroundings. The history of the Begijnhof is so interesting and worth finding out about before visiting the place. Spring flowers were just showing through. This place was one of the highlights.

It took us a while to find the Beguinage ( originally a retreat for women wanting a vow of poverty but now home to an order of nuns). There is signage everywhere to ask for respectful silence so it was a little disconcerting to see tour guides with groups loudly explaining the history of the place. The local church was... More
