The outside of the Basilica is quite beautiful. Inside is spartan. If you are a true believer, it would be awesome to see the relic. Otherwise, it is merely a tube.
Whatever your religion, this is a must-see. It's historic, evocative, unusual. One part is Romanesuqe, the other Gothic. Both have their own unique beauty. Iw as lucky enough to wander in during practice for a choir and the acoustics are superb.
From reading about the "holy blood" I though one would see it. However, all you see when you pay to get inside, is a gold tube. Whatever.
The day we visited The Basilica was the day after Assension Day so we were able to see The Holy Relic, which is a few drops of Christs Blood. We didn't have to queue at all, it was being shown to us by a very sombre gentleman which made us realise the holy significance of the experience.

What a great spiritual place, I loved it, the church is beautiful and the line to view the relic was really short and it moved pretty fast. I was so moved and afterwards just sat and took it all in. I would highly recommend.
We visited this church because it had the relic and because the architecture was so unusual and beautiful.
Spent a wonderful 30 minutes soaking the atmosphere in the magical place. We got there early because we anticipated queues later, walking back past a couple of hours after the queue stretched around the corner! Go early or late!
In the height of the tourist season in May it is a nice place to spend some time in the peace and quite of this church. Unfortunately the lead light windows on one side of the church were boarded up, I assume for repairs, but the windows on the other side give you an idea of the beauy of lead...

A beautiful place well worth a visit. I don't have the words to describe the sense of peace and the sense of God.
