The views from this central point of entry to this city proclaimed its wealth and power to medieval visitors. It still does and is a tribute to the city fathers of today. It certainly doesn’t disappoint.

Great views! You should see the views from the bridge and of the bridge. It's a great beauty in the middle of the city.

When I drive(*) to Ghent I usually park in the St. Michael's parking and walk into the center over this bridge. I always stop on the bridge to admire the view of the 3 towers, St Nicolas church, Belfry and the cathedral. Look left and you see the "Graslei" , beyond the Graslei you can see the Count's Castle. Enter this bridge by feed or by bike from the outside and you have the most marvelous look of Gent with the 3 towers: the Cathedral, the Belfry and the St Nicolas Church. Cross the bridge and you arrive in front of the St Nicolas Church, than the Belfry and Cloth Hall, than the Cathedral.

This is by large the best place to start your walking tour in the Ghent city center, and of course to take pictures. A selfie won't do, since the view begs for a panoramic picture.

Standing on the brigde, overlooking the canals with the castle in the brackground, is the best place to take a picture of Ghent. It feels like you are back in 11th century..

The bridge is, a bridge. It's beautiful, offers nice views, etc., but the trash flowing excessively through the canal was absolutely disgusting. Entire bags of trash! There are more bridges, that are more beautiful in Bruges, in my opinion, and much less crowded. Definitely see it if you're visiting, but it isn't magical or anything!

Not only the Bridge itself is beautiful. It is also the best spot to take photos of the popular restaurant/pubs/canal below. See photos uploaded.
