We spent the time to review the Ghent Altarpiece in detail -- exceptional way to see it up close and really learn the history and what's behind it. Also fun to watch Monument's Men before you go!

From here you get a great view on the left side of the bridge of the Korenlei and Graslei. These are the 2 streets on either side of the river where during the Summer everybody comes to enjoy a beer or a glass of wine. You get a great view of the old Post building with the huge clock and... More

We have made a point of walking across all the river bridges which connect Ghent. St Michael's Bridge is one of the most admired Ghent bridges and you will come across it if you are doing the Ghent City Walk. There are some good photo opportunities from the bridge and also as you approach the bridge from either direction.

But that's what everyone says here :D But sometimes, on sunny days. Go under the bridge. It can be smelly sometimes, but if it's not, big chance there's some music-student trying his stuff out on his guitar providing a nice background-tune over the canal.

You can see medieval Ghent from this spot. During the jazz festival a Brazilian percussion group (Pachamamapercussio) enthralled us with their drumming and choreography.

Great views of historic city and massive crowds enjoying music on one of the stages around the city during our visit. Also visit St Michaels church whilst your there especially if there's music on as the acoustics are phenomenal.

This is the place to start your walk. from the top of the bridge you can see the main attractions which you later visit. You can walk around easily, no need for a guided tour, and see the attraction one after the other. they are all in a short walking distance
