We were fortunate enough to spend an entire afternoon at the Design Museum. Fantastic show of current designers of everything from jewelry to furniture, perfectly set in a gorgeous space. Beautiful permanent collection of modern furniture and Art Nouveau designs from ceramics to several entire rooms fully furnished. Van de Velde dinnerware and Lalique vases among the hundreds of pieces... More

An unexpected treasure with some outstanding exhibits, plus an excellent temporary exhibition on display when we visited. Covers a number of levels with exhibits presenting a wide range of styles. If you have any interest in design this museum should not be missed.

Strange mixture of old and new, with no explanation of relevance / juxtaposition. Actually quite a small museum. Interesting glassware if that’s your bag but on the whole not much to see, plus the usual pretentious “design” elements. If it was free it would be worth a breeze through, but it’s actually quite expensive. Give it a miss.

Been 3 times now, 2 of floors are the permanent exhibitions that change very little, but 2 of the floors change at regular intervals exhibiting mainly contemporary designs. There are no lifts so it could be a problem for less mobile people.

Nearly didn't have time to go, so glad we did. We loved the set up. Largely set in a beautiful old house showing a mixture of items. Mixing modern and old. The exhibition n the new section was great fun. From other reviews I must clearly know nothing about design or how to manage a museum but for us it... More

So, I am a lover or design generally, and when we saw that Ghent had a design museum, we were pretty excited. Save your time. Don't go. The person at the desk who collected our money could not have cared less; she didn't even take time to explain how we might approach our visit or the layout of the museum.... More

If you have a bag pack, then don't go there. they ask you to pay to lock your bag without an reasonable explanation in the first. Plus, it's such an empty museum with almost nobody visiting inside, don't see the point of their bag locking policy. Worst museum experience ever. I'd rather spend this 8 euro in any local corner... One of the best museums I have been to for years. We had to carry our pram up and down the stairs but it didn't affect our enjoyment of the exhibitions. There is an older part to the museum with a larger modern extension. The architecture of the modern area allows for amazing natural light. If you are interested design,... More

Lovely collection of furniture, household objects and just stuff that is well designed - a bamboo bicycle, cool surfboards, the most beautiful chandelier ever. The displays have little toys placed among the things, intended for children to find in their looking, which is very appealing and entertaining for both them and the adults.
