Fantastic place to visit a real gem, next time in Belgium we will be making a point of staying there as we didn't really do it justice on our last visit.

The Citadel itself is beautifully located and impressive. The exhibition about WWI is well done and really interesting. If you visit, take the guided tour. It was held by a very humorous person and a real pleasure!

Contrary to some reviews the citadel is not free even if you drive up and park at the top. You ALWAYS pay €8 for the cable car, so it makes no difference if you come from the town or park up at the citadel.

Expensive to get in, and everything was closed: restaurant, even toilets. No warning at the gate. Very expensive parking to get into Dinant, which is not really worth it anyway.

There are three ways to get to the citadel. In high season there is a cable car. If you are a bit younger or in very good shape or have a lot of time there is a 408 step stairway carved into the cliff. Unfortunately what goes up that way must come down that way. Or there is the way... More

Dinant is special and simple, and breathtakingly beautiful. I found a picture online of Dinant and had to see it in person. The citadel is full of WW1 history, and has a small museum, (with info in a few languages- including English), to teach the events that took place there. I wouldn't miss this- the admission ticket, (I think it... More

Very nice to visit this interesting spot. Great if you view if from the water too. The whole place gives you a more village feeling instead of a city. We had a wonderful time here.

The citadel is built on a rock near the city centre. You can go to the citadel with a cable car. This is of course a great attraction. You can also drive there with your car or take the steps. I chose the cable car, because with this you have a beautiful view over the city. The entrance price is... More

The Citadelle is a marvellous attraction, especially this year, which marks the centenary of the beginning of World War I. There is a special exhibition (covered in the €8 per adult admission fee) that takes you through the experiences of the inhabitants of Dinant (the Belgian city which suffered the most civilian murders at the hands of the German troops... The citadel of Dinant is a must do activity if you are here! If you can, take the stairs to go upside or to go downside, you have some real nice spots to take some pictures of the city! Also the castle is a must do! There was a presentation of world war I if we went, and it was... More
