Fantastic place to visit a real gem, next time in Belgium we will be making a point of staying there as we didn't really do it justice on our last visit.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon and opted to take the cable car up (8 Euros each). As other reviewers have said, there are lots of locked rooms. We arrived just as a tour was starting, however we quickly lost interest as it was mostly in French. Toilets (50c each), gift shop and cafe are available. We saw, from the... More

The citadel oversees the Dinant city, situated on the river Meuse. The view from up there is truly breathtaking, as you have the chance to see the colorful houses reflect in the water and the rocky hill just behind. The citadel (now a museum) can be visited, there are tour guides who will explain the contents of every room and... More

Took the plunge (or cable car up) (408 steps otherwise) Interesting look around and informative displays about the town's part / mainly in the Great War. Not much else to explore though - gates locked - I guess to save us walking too far :-(

The Citadel itself is beautifully located and impressive. The exhibition about WWI is well done and really interesting. If you visit, take the guided tour. It was held by a very humorous person and a real pleasure!

Contrary to some reviews the citadel is not free even if you drive up and park at the top. You ALWAYS pay €8 for the cable car, so it makes no difference if you come from the town or park up at the citadel.

Expensive to get in, and everything was closed: restaurant, even toilets. No warning at the gate. Very expensive parking to get into Dinant, which is not really worth it anyway.

There are three ways to get to the citadel. In high season there is a cable car. If you are a bit younger or in very good shape or have a lot of time there is a 408 step stairway carved into the cliff. Unfortunately what goes up that way must come down that way. Or there is the way... More

Dinant is special and simple, and breathtakingly beautiful. I found a picture online of Dinant and had to see it in person. The citadel is full of WW1 history, and has a small museum, (with info in a few languages- including English), to teach the events that took place there. I wouldn't miss this- the admission ticket, (I think it... More
