This is a fantastic example of a 16th century chateau, picturesque in the extreme, set behind a moat, and set in beautifully manicured gardens. A wonderful place to visit - and at a good price. 5 euros for adults and 4 euros for juniors and seniors; not bad. Add to that the biologically very accurate statues of female nudes dotted... More

I wanted to visit this Castle for the second time so I called them to ask whether the Chateau would be opened during labor day. The person who answered the phone told me that the Chateau would be opened as it was Sunday. It took us one hour to reach the Chateau, to find out that it was closed. What... More

On our way to Liege we stopped at the Chateau for a quick recess and were surprised by the lovely gardens and sculptures... For a stop on the way it was perfect and I would highly recommend it.

The castle was inherited by Jehan Holmant deSart and in 1492, Jehanne deSart, Holmant's daughter, married Arnold de Merode. For more than two centuries the castle remained in the hands of this family whose members were the main restorers. In 1680, de Merode sold the castle to Francois de Gand-Vilain van den Steen, Baron of Saive and "grand Mayeur de... More

The approach to the chateau and the moat makes for glorious photos. There are a few rooms to view which have so much history inside them and I would recommend the headset to hear the tour (all downstiars rooms so idea for those with limited mobility). The places just oozes history. Try to go on a summy day as the... More

Ok, it is a great castle with a great park, but maybe you see the most just from the outside. Paying a ticket to see just few rooms (two of them closed) maybe it is too much. This is the last season before restoration works begin, so maybe after that a visit inside will be more interesting. The parking area... More

I think I had idealised this chateau in my mind, since I was planning a visit for over 3 years... It really is lovely, the exterior and the garden were brilliant, but also... not in original state. A lot of art is shown from the previous owner, which is quite nice. Really can't appreciate what they have done to the... More

This is a fantastic looking castle and church, surrounded by a moat. Really stunning. The gardens are beautiful as well. The exterior is very impressive, the interior is nice but in a poor state.

Visited the Castle on Easter Monday 2012. From the outside this seems to be a marvellous castle. The inside, on the other hand, is less attractive. Only a few rooms are open for visitors and the upstairs could not be visited. (probably because it is in bad shape). Some of the art pieces did not fit in. The furniture looks... More
