Great how it showed all the different eras too. The tour guide Ian was fantastic at explaining how it all worked. Really great day.... More

I have wanted to come to this museum for a while and eventually managed to fit in a visit. We were not disappointed in any way. The underground tour has to be booked in advance at a cost of £3 for which you are given a brass token. This £3 is fully refundable on return of the token or the... More

We took our family of too young boys (7 and 1 year old) and their auntie and uncle. It was a great day out with lots to see and do. If you opt to go down the pit you get kitted out with a hard hat and miners lamp. Then you are transported down the proper mineshaft to a proper... More

Intended to make a quick visit - spent much longer than we expected. Really interesting exhibits and the underground tour far exceeded our expectations. All of the staff were really helpful - special thanks to Ian S for making the underground tour so enjoyable (true Barnsley humour). Fantastic to see the ponies and Finn ( the beautiful Clydesdale) looking so... More

An absolutely fabulous attraction which is under threat due to reducing government funding. I am from West Yorkshire, even though my family did not directly work there the pits were always around and part of the community and it's heritage. Free parking & free entry. A reasonably priced cafe with the usual array of snacks and drinks. A great exhibition... More

Loved the trip underground was fantastic, also was impressed how well pit ponies are treated as appose to just being paraded as an attraction, The guides are informative, funny and have genuine experience in the industry. The only criticism is staff as reception seem hostile when you ask for the tokens refunded (You pay for tokens to go underground then... More
