In June 2013 our Tour Group went to The Royal Toone Theatre and indeed it is a Hidden Treasure in Brussels. Toone 7 gave the history in which he mentioned that this started as entertainment for the run of the mill people after work for 30 minutes weekday evenings. The acts had some element of social comment at that time.... More

Even when all the show is in French (actually you can understand the story just watching), it just beautiful to be there enjoying the hole thing. The place is great, the show is awesome, people are nice, beers are delicious, etc, etc... a must do!

I kept waiting for the show to start. There was a band that was warming up for like two hours. Maybe three. I sort of lost track of time. The reason is because it was actually nice to just sit down and chat with friends for a while. They had a pretty decent beer selection from what I could tell.... More

While spending a day with a friend who lives near Brussels, he took us down a narrow street to Toone. While we weren't there for a show, even taking in a delicious beer in this place was quite memorable. They have a nice list of offerings for beverages, and being here you certainly feel as though you've stepped into another... More

You really have to search to find this spot. Tucked away in a little alley is the theatre and cafe/pub. We missed the evening marionette show but stopped for a drink. Wonderful atmosphere and prices were reasonable. Service was indifferent but the ambience more than made up for it. Hope to make it for the show upon or return.

Friends took us here. We thought we were going for a beer - which we were, but surrounded by puppets and the old puppet theatre. This has now moved upstairs, and has a daily programme.

Not only can you have a good beer in this historic Estaminet, but you can also actually watch a puppetshow! I went to see Macbeth in French. My French isn't wonderful, but that did not matter in the least. The atmosphere is great, the puppet show was great and I would love to go back again.

Although Toone is most renowned for it's traditional (and it seems very good) puppet theatre, it is definitely also worth a visit to have a drink. They serve some very good Belgian beers in an almost unique setting. It probably comes closest to how pubs must have looked like a few hundred years ago.

We went on Friday 6 December - a special trip to Belgium for my birthday and this was the one thing I was desperate to see. It didn't disappoint. Although doors upstairs are meant to open about 15 minutes beforehand, don't worry if they're still closed 5 minutes before the performance starts and you can always have a drink in... More
