I stumbled across this venue while simply wanting to visit the scene of the Battle of Waterloo, it's a delightful gem of a historical site and reasonably priced at €7 to visit the mound and the panorama. The climb up to the top of the mound is quite steep but worth it for the views, I am not sure how... More

The Lion Mound is good, although it is what you'd expect. It is also HARD work to walk all the way to the top, and if you are elderly or have mobility problems it will take you a long time. The Panorama is good, although very dated and could do with a total overhaul. The visitors centre is poor, not... More

The first thing you see when you turn the corner after the endless road through Waterloo is the megalomaniac monument to William, Prince of Orange. Although hailed in his own country as a hero of Waterloo (that reputation is disputed however), his contribution, that of the Prussians and the other Germans is largely ignored in favour of Wellington's and, inevitably,... Great and a must-see if you are in Belgium. The view from top of the lions mound is fantastic. And to imagine what happend all over the place a few years ago. The festival in 2015 will be amating. The movies about Napoleon are interesting and the panoramic museum (sounds of the battle included) stunning. Big construction works are going... More

The panorama museum was very good, no sounds of battle though as advertised, could have done with a bit more on where on the battlefield the important individual battles were fought. Lots of building works going on as 2015 is the 200th anniversary of the battle, I think accommodation and new museums going up, looks like it'll be a lot... More

We walked to the Brussels Midi station and caught the 'W' bus to the 'Champ de Bataille' which seemed to be a bit of a mystery trip to everyone we asked, the bus stopping dozens of times until a kind local told us where to disembark and waved in the general direction of the battle site. We were a bit... More

The area around the Butte du Lion is a total disaster at the moment with extensive roadworks and renovations making it very hard to get close to the visitor centre. If you factor in a long walk for senior citizens and it's not very visitor friendly at the moment. I hope they get their act together sooner rather than later... More

Those renovations should make for a much better presentation for the big Bicentennial celebration for next year. The climb to the top of the Lion's mound is exhilarating and does present an awesome panoramic view.

The Panorama is spectacular and best visited at the end, after the films at the Visitor Centre. The Butte de Lion is not for the unfit ... my legs ached for two days afterwards.

I spent 3-4 hours at the battle site and enjoyed it very much. The 200 plus steps up the Lion's Mound presents a wonderful view of the battlefield and surrounding buildings and sites. It's a moving experience to finally see this. There is an exhibit on the history of the mound. Very interesting since most of this was new info.... More
