Came here as one of the most important battles of the 19th Century and expected to learn much of the history - not so! Firstly the road to it and the car parks are a disgrace, parking on the side of the road, nowhere to turn round, building lorries in among visitor's cars. Once parked, have to walk over rubble... Disgusted after coming by to climb up the Lion's Butte. On arrival, both the visitor's center and panorama were closed despite signs that indicated that they should be open. Instead tickets were being sold at the exhibition hall at the extortionate price of 16 Euros just to walk up the steps! Message to the hosts: if you want people to... More

we climbed the mound, the views are spectacular and give you a good sense of the scale of the battle . there was no museum , and the shop is full of french books t-shirts memorabilia etc, but we could not find anything British/Allies , which is a shame as this is one of the most important battles in history... The panorama is worth seeing as well as the two films. The climb up the Lion's Mound gives you a great vantage point over the battlefield.

The visitor's centre gives an understanding, albeit biased towards the winners, of Waterloo. The diorama, although old, generated interest amongst young and old alike. Suggest a visit to the centre before climbing the Mound to get a better idea of where to look as there is little guidance at the top!

The Lion's Mound is attractive enough, and the view from the top of the surrounding farmland is a god place to photograph, but the Panorama is hardly worth the trip. The movie which accompanies the experience gives some detail of the battle, but English subtitles were hard to read. It is a long drive for VERY little return.

After visiting the Musee Wellington we continued to the Lion's Mound. At the moment the road approaching it is a bit of a building site - ready for the anniversary this June. But you can still go in the visitor centre, where they play two shortish films explaining the battle - a documentary and some excerpts from the old Soviet... More

This place is of great historical value but badly kept and hardly brought forward as a tourist attraction. Firstly it is rather difficultly accessible, with poor indications as to where to go. As far as the monument itself is concerned, see my comment on that specific part of these surroundings, which I repeat hereunder: "Great historic value but poorly kept,... More

Good to follow in the footsteps of once gallant men who fought. Love the views, 226 steps that you have to climb. The panoramic museum was very spectacular. Love that painting of that battle. Quite moving. Recommend UK people going there. Cheers Col Wales
