The battlefield and new visitors centre are about 4 km away from Waterloo. You can get there by bus or taxi from the railway station. The visitor's centre is underground and is where the battlefield tour starts. There are portraits of key figures, dioramas, displays of uniforms, weapons and battleground equipment. There are also audio guides for hire, but if,... More

The Mound gives you a wonderful vantage point from which to look out on the battlefield and orient yourself. Yes, it did, as Wellington said, ruin "my battlefield", but when you consider it was a funeral mound from a king to his dead son, you can forgive that a bit. On the downside, they've moved in statues of Napoleon to... More

I visited about 1 week after the 200 year anniversary. The new visitors' centre at the Lion's mound tells the whole story of the battle including as much background info as you'd like to take in to get the context. The 3d movie was good and it helped to explain the match between two great tacticians, Napoleon who attacked with... More

To do this properly you need at least two hours , I found I kept skipping things on the auditory aid as I was getting distracted. The 3d film was excellent found myself really immersed in it and it made the whole battle come to life.

Excellent and a must see place. A very good modern visitors centre with wonderful displays and an exciting film show. You must climb the Lion Mound to see a fantastic view of the battlefield.

Waterloo 1815 museum This excellent museum is located within the Lion village area of the battlefield. The old museum building is still there and this will cause confusion. The new museum is located opposite, underground, accessed by a ramp. Upon admission you will be given an audio device which whilst guiding you also gives you a soldiers personality and allows... Museum is great now,not enormous but enough, great view from the top,the stairs need some repair, but sadly not many country's have the standards as England have in keeping monuments in good condition, and considering it was the 200 th anniversary it doesn't look good for the future.after your visit you might get lunch,do you know that the price you see in cafes... Lovely experience; been here a few times (once for the Battle of Waterloo - 200th reenactment which was fabulous). The panorama is a great experience, the visitors center if very nice with a lovely and informative video about the Battle. A walk to the top of the Butte de Lion is a must, the views of the surrounding landscape are... More

Many years ago, it was free to climb the Lion's mound, but now it's chargeable. It's worth the climb, as the views of the surrounding landscape and the remains of the battlefield are magnificent. The Panorama is also worth a visit, as you get a real feelig of being in the middle of the battle. We were unable to get... More
