St Rombout is really nice church and if you visit it you can't avoid to visit also the tower. There are more than 550 steps but the stairs are "comfortable" and 2 different stairs for people who go up and people who go down. The free flier describes perfectly all the landscape you see on top of the tower!

I'm not a culture vulture, but it seems that residents of most cities will recommend you visit their local cathedral. I've visited a lot and I have to say that St Rombouts is one of the most impressive. The scale of the place is astonishing, and unlike most ancient cities where the cathedrals tend to have become enveloped by other... More

The St. Rombouts cathedral is quite imposing and an iconic monument for the quaint town of Mechelen. The top of the 100 m tower provides a good view of the city of Mechelen and also nearby cities. You can even get to see the Atomium in Brussels on a clear day. The climb of more than 300 steps is worth... More

If you find yourself in Mechelen, the architecture in the historical center with the cathedral and the city hall is probably the most important thing to see. St Rombout cathedral is really impressive from the outside and in. You could see the art inside, take a high staircase to climb the tower and have a great view on the city,... More

Since the 16th century, Mechelen is the religious capital of the country and the St. Rombouts cathedral, is the church of the archbishop who lives in his palace a few meters from there. Mechelen is a real "kerkenstad" a town with 10 historic churches of which the 14th century cathedral is number one! . A must for every visitor who... More

Wondering if pillars of the earth book story has anything to do with this church. Dizzying height, great art, wonder and awe. If you decide to walk up the tower bring a towel... Ticket required only for tower climb.

Mechelen is situated in Belgium - one of the Flander' prominent cities of historical interest, the others are Antwerp, Brugge,Brussels, Ghent and Leuven. During the northern renaissance, Mechelen flourished with painters and printmakers, prior to that it was the wool, tapestry, wood carving, sculpting, lace making and carillon, a musical instrument made locally that thrived in this town. The archeological... More

This is a beautiful church. The ticket booth is at the entrance down a small hall. The man selling the tickets looked at us up and down almost as if he was wondering whether we could handle the journey up the 538 or so steps. I am very overweight but constantly exercise/do weights. My husband is only slightly overweight but... More

"Le plat pays qui est le mien" Brel was singing. Thanks to this flat country, the view takes you to Antwerp, Brussels and even further away. Only for people liking stairs, more stairs....and some more

I had a short stop at Mechelen and visited the cathedral + the tower with a friend. It is nice 500+ steps to the top, with a few stops on the way so you you can rest and learn about the history of the tower. At the top amazing views all the way to Brussels and Antwerpen (when weather is... More
