Pity there was no water...

Important insight into the legends of Antwerp. Charlming seal, among the other animals and birds. Nothing else really to say, but don't just walk past it!

The statue of Brabo tell the story of the Giant who controlled the river. If you were unwilling to pay the toll he would cut off your hand. One day a sailor, Silvius Brabo, challenged the Giant to a dual. Brabo won and cut off the Giant's head and hand. He threw the hand into the water, which is Flemish... More

Beautiful very large statue of Roman warrior Brabo holding up the hand of a giant. It is situated in the center of the Great Market Square in old Antwerp. Guild Halls on one side and Town Hall on another. You'll see a dragon on the base and Brabo holding up the severed hand aloft.

If you go to Antwerpen this is a sculpture that you can't miss. Located in front of the City Hall. Nice add to the center. Visited twice for the past few years. Great city that is well worth to visit. Plenty of restaurants in the Grote Markt that you can sit and enjoy the view.

This attraction is a UNESCO world heritage, and it fully deserves it. The buildings surrounding the square, the statue in the middle explaining the city's name, all are just great!

You're in the Grotemarkt, so Brabo is pretty difficult to miss. A nice piece of sculpture and a landmark of the area. There are two Irish pubs nearby, so once you've finished marveling at Brabo you can cool down with a pint of the black stuff.

The statue is associated with a myth of a Roman soldier defeating a giant. It stands in Grote Markt and has a fountain. Although the statue is very symbolic to Antwerp, it is not an old one. It was sculptured in the 19th century. You will simply pass by it when you stroll in the heart of old Antwerp.

Legend has it that a giant used to live in Antwerp and used to kill anyone who passed by it. A hero named Brabo came, killed the giant. He cut off the giant's hand and threw it in the ocean giving Antwerp its name. The Brabo Fountain is arguably the most important landmark in Antwerp. Along with the Train Station,... More

The main statues placed right in the center of the city, just in front of the cathedral. Brabo as far as I know he was a local hero here, in fact he's depicted holding a huge hand just ripped off from a giant which was defeated to defend the city from the tyranny of this enemy. However good spot where... More
