Given the fact that this is the oldest tunnel of this kind in the world, it is simply an engineering marvel. It is fun, even kinda eerie to take the long escalators down and walk inside. Knowing that you are walking under a river makes you respect the engineers much more. The walk in itself after a point is boring... More

Living in Greenwich with its own foot tunnel under a major river it was very interesting to visit this wonderful tunnel. Used by cyclists and pedestrians alike it is worth walking the 600+ metres under the Schelde over to the other side for a good view back over Antwerp. Some people have commented that it is dull and nothing to... More

St. Anna Tunnel is probably the oldest tunnel of this kind in the world. Apparently before the WWII the progress of the digging of the tunnel were followed everywhere in the world. I prefer to cross it by bike than walk it.

but the view you get when you get to the other side! Walking in the tunel was kind of disappointing but on the other side you get to see the city skyline from a distance and I think that is what made it worthy.

A surprisingly clean tunnel putting the British subways to shame. The downside however is that the long walk down the tunnel with... More

Whilst on a City walk in Antwerp, the Guide told us about St Anna Tunnel which runs under the River Scheldt, so we decided to investigate. You first of all descend either by a very large lift or by 2 very long wooden escalators to a straight tunnel which then took us 11 minutes to walk to the 2 escalators... More

I was a bit concerned about the safety of the tunnel, because there were not many people and some weird guys were hanging at the entrance. But actually at least to me nothing bad happened. However, you have to keep in mind that if you go through the tunnel, you will have to come back as well and it is... More
