A little castle situated by the water, I made a quick little stop here to check it out. Truth be told, there's not a whole lot to be seen here, but it did have significance during the war. It was interesting to read how many Canadians helped defend this position until the end of the war.

I walked all around the Steen to see as much as I could. I would have loved to have gotten inside and spend a lot of time there. This is a fascinating place to tour. I say some men milling around inside as though they might be getting ready for a reception of some sort, but otherwise it was closed.

A not very big castle, situated on the Schelde river's bank,at one end of Steenplein,a beautiful promenade that follows the river's bank.It houses a kind of water museum. There's a little restaurant inside, too.

A nice old castle, that used to be a prison, then a museum. Now it's a restaurant, but still seems authentic the place from outside.

This used to be an interesting museum, but was closed down many years ago. It's one of the oldest buildings in the city, but seriously neglected by the city council.

An exposition about the maritime world that is so important for this city. The display could be more temporary.

On May 19, 2012, the Steen castle was reopened. This historic building is now being used as a space basically aimed at young children, with silly, kindergarten-like toys & some limited animation (entry fee €10 when there are shows). The first floor features a café-for-all, with windows overlooking the river. All of the original Maritime museum pieces have been moved... More
