If you have spare hour, we do recommend to visit this place. We had lively and informative guide, so time flew by really fast. Guide gave also short insight in Hague history, so we could understood better history of Gate Prison

They offer tours in English but make sure you arrive on time! The tour guide was exceptionally funny and informative at the same time. He knows a lot about the different torture devices displayed and tells gruesome stories to go along. I would definitely recommend this museum for anyone with a strong stomach and interested in the hague's darker history

This is a tour and you are given a audio guide to listen to in English . It is very entertaining and you get a real sense of how horrible life must have been [ especially when the lights go out]. The dutch can obviously enjoy this more , as their guide is very animated but I didn't find that... More

To enter the prison one needs to join a tour. The tour is in Dutch, but there is a audio guide in English. While following the story from the audio guide, you just need to follow the guided tour to be able to see the rooms in the prison. In the prison one can find a lot of stuff that... More

Great tour of a really old prison! I believe there is one tour each hour. The guide was very knowledgeable and we had a lot of time to look around in the various rooms. You get to see the punishment areas, the methods of torture used, the cells of the poor prisoners and then the set up for the wealthy...... More

I visited the prison with my nephew of 10 years old. He always wanted to see, the in his eyes "horror" prison. He loved it and me too. We were just too late for the first guided tour so we did the small quiz in another part of the prison. This was nice to do and we were just finished... More

The tour was interesting in parts but it would have been much better if you could go around yourselves. However you are stuck to going with a tour guide and the tour is entirely in Dutch. We were at least given headsets with bits to listen to in each room- however the tour guide spoke at least 3 times as... More

The Galarij and Museum de Gevangenpoort are my favourite museum at Den Haag. Somewhat gruesome and sad the torture chamber is a part of history that the Dutch are very honest about. Prison cells for the rich and poor are interesting. There is a short 10 minute film and a guided tour in English. There is also a hall of... More

If you like old things the prison was very interesting. They had a well planed visit showing what prison life was like in the old days. They had all of the old tools of the trade and showed how the used them on people. Glad I was not around during that time of life.

We went on this tour (allowing 30-45 minutes per Rick Steves) with the assurance that though conducted in Dutch, we could easily follow along with the audio-guide in English. The audio guide provided 1-2 minutes of commentary per room and seemed designed for the blind - it simply told you what was in the room. On the other hand, the... More
