You can almost see Vermeer sitting on the south bank painting his famous picture. Well, nothing stays the same for 350 years, but it's a very pretty and photogenic location. I noticed several people gathering to take pictures, although it doesn't figure much in any of my guidebooks other than to say it's the only surviving piece of the town's... More

The long walk from our hotel to reach the Oostpoort was worth the trek. The weather was perfect and this sight was striking.

Great photo spot at this location. Great walking town - strolled for hours (even in light rain). Historic gates and numerous waterways are so peacefully beautiful. Plan to spend at least half a day.

The Oostpoort is the "East Gate" to the central city of Delft. It's along the largest canal, which circles the city. As I was about to cross the bridge to the Oostpoort, an alarm went off, the bridge swiveled and a small boat passed by on the canal. All very charming. The Oostpoort itself is a small stone building with... More

If you’ve ever wanted to compare Vermeer’s View of Delft with the scene today, you’ll be largely disappointed. Much has changed since the 1660s. But, if you pass through the Oostpoort and cross the bridge, you’ll get a glimpse of the past. There’s the broad canal and, beyond it, the twin towers of a gateway with its arched entrance. Whilst... I liked everything. The town is beautiful and the Johannes Vermeer Hotel is a very nice place. The rooms were clean, the people working there were nice and helpful and the breakfast was super.

If you're coming from the Delft train station, Oostport is on the opposite side of it. Good thing Delft is compact, you can easily make the effort to walk there since it's very photogenic and if you pass through the gates, you can imagine merchants and travellers entering the town of Delft during medieval times. Upon entering, just go straight,... More

I have been to Delft three times and will surely find my way back there again. If visiting Delft the best place to stay is in Oude Delft, the historic centre of the city. This is mainly a pedestrian only area. The buildings are beautiful and the market square is always a hub of activity. A visit to Oostpoort is... More

The Oostpoort is the only remaining town gate in Delft. The gate is around 600 years old and is designed using a certain style of Gothic architecture, which stands out from any other structure in Delft. There is also a little bridge near the Oostpoort which somehow makes the gate more interesting. A very photogenic and very historic place.

The Oostpoort is a delightful corner of Delft a little way off the usual tourist run. Apart from the Gate and, the bridge and the canal, there is nothing else there but it's a great photo opportunity.
