This museum is extremely impressive even before entering its portals. The museum is based in a delightful medieval church (Buurkerk). The welcome was friendly and the price of 11 Euros was certainly not excessive for the sheer number and quality of the exhibits. The key elements of the museum were clockwork (often musical) toys and automated organs and pianos. There... More

We were taken here by family that lives locally. We would not have thought to go if they hadn't brought us. We loved it. In fact, our kids said it was one of the best museums ever, and they meant it. It is critical that you take a tour. Without the demonstrations of the various musical machines this is just... More

This was a small museum recommended by a friend. It is a short walk from the central train station and not far from the Dom Cathedral Square. We were surprised to find such a collection of mechanical musical instruments. The docents give a great tour choosing a variety of "instruments" to showcase. The museum is built within an old church... More

Every so often you come across a small museum with a specialized collection that is so well displayed and so full of both facts and fun that you realize you have stumbled on a treasure. The Museum Speelklok is one of those special places. The exhibits have a lot of hands on and family friendly elements, along with a couple... More

We arrived half an hour before closing and weren't here long enough to do a full assessment. What I saw, the automatons and some of the mechanical musical instruments make me think that an extended visit might well result in giving it an excellent rating. We'll have to go back there. What I saw was quite fascinating, but I need... More

A kaleidoscope of music boxes and clocks, self-playing instruments, street organs, gigantic jukeboxes and calliopes puts a smile on everyone’s face at Museum Speelklok (or Musical Clock Museum). Hidden in the ancient university town of Utrecht, it’s just a half-hour away from Amsterdam by train and a 10-minute walk from the station. Guided tours are offered every hour and are... More

My 3 and 4 year olds loved this museum and the guided your was great. The lady spoke English and made sure that we were included in all of the demonstrations. The children got to use some of the exhibits and the concert organ playing pharrell Williams 'happy' was fantastic. Really enjoyed the visit.

Really one wonders when they see those old musical instruments driven mechanically and sounding nothing less than amazing. The people back then did unbelievable things with limited resources. If you are in Utrecht you should definitely visit this place. Old musical instruments and old clocks, beautifully preserved. Don't forget to take the guided tour.

We really enjoyed this museum. We joined a tour which was supposed to be both in Dutch & English but unfortunately, it was about 95% Dutch only. (This may be because there were lots of small Dutch children), despite that, it was fun and our guide played lots of music which was very enjoyable. The Moving Magic exhibition of 19th... More

When it Utrecht, be sure to visit this museum, documenting the history of musical clocks, self playing music machines and barrel organs. It's a guaranteed joy.
