Lots of very interesting things here about the history of Christianity, especially in the Netherlands but also more generally. I thought it was fascinating to see the parts showing the divergence between Protestant and Catholic practice. My main complaint is that too little material was available in English - many of the things that looked the most interesting I couldn't... More

If you are into religious (catholic) art this is a must see museum. Former monastery converted to a museum.

Museum Catharijneconvent shows the history of Christianity in the Netherlands through centuries-old art as well as contemporary art. Paintings by Rembrandt, Pieter Saenredam and Jan van Scorel, relics, video art by Guido van der Werve and others, sculptures of saints, ancient manuscripts, a huge stained glass window by Marc Mulders and all there is to know about holidays such as... This is The Netherlands' national museum of Christian art, culture and history. It's housed in a medieval monastery, and includes both Protestant and Catholic art and cultural objects. It's not large, but you could spend a lot of time here. Unfortunately, I was under a time constraint, and so although I was able to visit all the rooms, I didn't... More

very interesting, beautiful museum of church history and history of Christianity in the Nederlands. Loved the dark treasury exposition where only the exponents were illuminated and other expositions with magnificent artifacts and multimedia couches where you can sit and watch movies on related subjects. Very beautiful and inspiring! I only regret I had not much time

Next to the Dom and Rietveld Huis, the Catharijneconvent is Utrecht's premier attraction. The site has an adjacent Church worth a glance, but the former convent - now a museum - is why visitors come in droves. And it's not for the architecture, but for the religious art assembled inside. Quite simply, it's hard to imagine a better display of... More

I love the Catharijneconvent Museum, which is great in every way: beautiful location (based in a medieval convent), excellent collection (with objects dating from the eight century until today) and good exhibitions (be sure to check the site). Definate downside is that none of the signs for the main collection are in English. This is mostly due to the fact... More

Museum 'het Catharijneconvent' is a wonderfull building to start with. A medieval convent in the heart of the city. Thick walls and a mysterious atmosfere. The collection is something special as well. It ranges from ancient paintings to contemporary clothing. The museum is a step back in time with links to the present and a very soothing influence on everyday... More

We didn't know quite what to expect, given that this museum has religion as its focus. The collections are well displayed, however, and especially the medieval section is quite fascinating. The building that the museum is housed in, formerly a convent, is also very attractive. I prefer the Central Museum, but enjoyed visiting this one for a change.

I'm not a great fan of religious treasure, but whay they have here is truly magnificent. You get a free audio description in your own language, which helps to bring the place to life. Locals seem to use the restarant for lunch, which is very jolly
