Don’t wait for a day of sunshine, that might take too long. And anyway, this is a very nice trip under almost any weather. With rain there is more shimmering in the drops on the many bamboo leaves, there are wonderful sounds to be heard when you set your mind to it when there is a lot of wind, and when it is a sunny day..... Well, that’s easy to enjoy this park on a sunny day. My advise is, use more than ‘just’ your eyes if you have also a nose, fingertips, ears and taste.

Having lived in the Netherlands most of my life, I'd never visited the botanical gardens in Utrecht before. Safe to say it was a treat! The entrance fee is not expensive (compared to most sightseeing places in the Netherlands). Buying a drink and food however isn't cheap, so bring your own food if you don't have a lot to spend.
The garden provides a variety of things to see, a bamboo forest, a butterfly garden, tropical plant garden and the rock garden. It's a lovely sight to see, guaranteed you'll have a good time!

Years the botanical gardens were the decor of a festival called "de Beschaving".
A wonderfull place in the middle of the university buildings. Definately worth a stroll.
The festival is no more, but this place is still worth a visit. Either you enjoy great scenery and flora/fauna, or you’re looking for a great place to entertain the younger generations.

The garden was 20 minute taxi from a central hotel. We were only there for an hour and a half due to other plans but we could easily have stayed for three to four hours.
There is a café and shop.
The garden was really extensive and we will certainly visit next time we are in Utrecht

This botanic garden is situated on the Utrecht University campus, around a former fort, part of the so called "Holland Water Defence. Its collection is huge, especially their rockplants collection is impressive. The tropical greenhouses cannot meet the size of other botanic gardens in the world, but the garden is worth a visit during a summers day.
The thematic approach, also focussed on medicinal, plants and other useful substances is very educational.

In Utrecht you have the old and the new botanic gardens.
I prefer the new one which is not in the city centre but at the university complex at the Uithof.

Nice relaxing scenery and good day out in Utrecht. The butterfly garden is a must some of the species are beautiful. The cafe was lovely and great service and kind staff, great prices too. Loved the swings and the water features. Would only say have more benches in the shade as it was very hot when we went and struggled to find some that weren’t in the sun.

if you are in the Netherlands between April and May you have to go and see this garden.
if you are in the Netherlands between April and May you have to go and see this garden. Organized in an excellent way, with various dining options and small markets where you can buy typical stuff of the place.
