Built in 1924, the Rietveld Schroeder House was revolutionary in its time. It is like a three-dimensional version of a Piet Mondriaan painting - all rectangles in primary colours and strong verticals and horizontals in black and white. The smart use of space is amazing - folding wall panels open up the upstairs rooms, plus amazing window design and ingenious... More

The creator of the famous "red and blue chair" was also the builder of this home that is on the Unesco World Heritage List. A limited number of tours are available. You may have to put up with a rather unfriendly receptionist, but the upbeat guide makes up for it.

This place is 30 minutes walk away from the city center. The tour consists of several rooms weirdly painted and fitted with sliding doors. Not much to see if the name Reitveld meant nothing to you. Advance reservation is a must.

We combined our visit to the Centraal Museum (11 Euro p.p.) with a tour through the Rietveld House (add 3 Euros p.p. for the combination ticket). Be sure to make a reservation for the Rietveld House! It's quite far from everything else in Utrecht, but at the Centraal Museum you can borrow a bicylce to get there, that will take... More

The Rietveld Schröder House Prins Hendriklaan 50, Utrecht. http://centraalmuseum.nl/en/visit/locations/rietveld-schroder-house This house is as radical looking today as when it was built in 1924, consisting of a 3 dimensional composition of asymmetrical planes and structural columns in black, white, grey, and the 3 primary colours. Designed by Gerrit Rietveld (1888-1964), the furniture designer and architect, it has been listed as a... More

Being an architecture student I can say I have been that amazed in my life only a very few times. If you enjoy architecture and art definitely don't miss it. You will admire the spirit of Rietveld and Schroder and realize how genius the design and the structure are given that the house was built in the begging of the... More

The information on the audio player is interesting and the house is unusual. However, it was a good half an hour walk from the city and it would have been expensive if I didn't have a MuseumKaart.

This place really shows the genius that Gerrit Rietveld was. He had a revolutionary view on how a living space should and could be. The nice thing is also that you can visit the rooms and experience it in person. Although the house was designed a century ago, the concept is still very modern.
