The village of Volendam was once a fishing village and you can still see the semblance.. however, now it is a tourist attraction. Great place to visit and pick up souveniers, tee shirts, and cheeses. If you are expecting to see anything more than a tourist walk, then you will be disappointed.

This charming seaside town is well worth the half-day trip from Amsterdam, whether you join a tour or do it yourself. There are a lot of food options, especially the seafood ones (since it's a fishing town) like kibbeling and smoked eel. Go around the town, and admire the storybook houses. It's said to be one of the few Catholic... More

We visited Volendam in February 2014, as part of an excursion trip from Amsterdam. Excursion was around four hours long and costing 35 euros per person. It was a great way to see the Dutch countryside and see the dykes. Volendam has lovely restaurants and café and our tour included the cheese factory and the clog factory. Excursion runs twice... Parking. There are a couple of places with free parking up to 1.5 hours, but you have to move your car if you stay longer. There is also paid parking beneath the Deen supermarket on Zeestraat road. Eat seafood. Either have some mussels at one of the restaurants or buy fish nuggets (kibbeling) or a smoked eel sandwich (gerookte paling)... More

In Volendamu we were briefly within the organized excursions. It is definitely worth a look, the Dutch culture, life in small towns, cheese, etc. Too bad there was no more time and some better weather

Yes, it's a touristy place & I can imagine it gets very busy in the summer months but we visited on a lovely spring day in March & it was just nice to get away from the city & enjoy the sunshine by the water. Lots of lovely little cafes/bars where you can just sit in the sun & watch... More

Its an easy bus ride from Amsterdam which makes it a great day trip. Was great to see the fishing village. We took a walk to the windmill and saw all the beautiful scenery! Very touristy but don't let that put you off.

Volendam is a town in North Holland. It is known as 'Pearl of Zuidersee', a popular tourists' attraction. It is basically a fishermen's village and has rather isolated location. This histiric place and inhabitants here , have very little influence of time on their life-style. This is the reason that they are still traditional with ethnic Dutch values. One can... More

When we were here the winds blow very strong that can make you fly. But the scenery here is beautifull. Only a few windmill left and still operated. Also you can see the Volendam Museum and see how and what volendam people do in the past.

If you want to feel the beauty and iconic place of Netherlands, just visit this city, where located beside the sea with a great and amazing panoramic, by the combination of beach and village. A lot of good restaurants around, souvenirs shops and last but not least: photo studios! You just pay 25 Euros for taking a shot for your... More
