Clogs are made from Poplar wood. They are rough shaped then using machines that follow a "Pattern" clog rough cuts ths shoe. Then another machine cuts out the inside out. When finally rough cut the clog is allowed to dry from the green wood condition and finished off. If you want to wear them you need nice thick woollen socks.

Arriving by ferry from Volendam, thunder clouds loomed over the lake, we were hurried into the wooden clog factory for a demonstration. Fortunately, the clog maker had a good sense of humour and was tri-lingual, including English. His presentation aside, two machines did all the work. Given the wooden chips flying everywhere (and a sharp nail in the bench I... More

If you ever wondered how clogs or wooden shoes are made, the klompenmakerij , I love that word!, in Marken will show you. He has everyone sit in s semi-circle around the machinery as he gives his informative and interesting talk, and demonstration. He can make chips fly as he makes his klompens, so be aware. I guess they call... More

I enjoyed this tourist attraction a lot because of the demo and the many photo opportunity inside the wooden clog factory/shop. I managed to watch the demo and learned about the clog-making industry. I also enjoyed how funny the demo-lady was. Sorry, I didn't get her name but she was funny and entertaining! I just wish it didn't rain so... More

A short but informative demonstration of wooden clog making. I recommend that you sit away from the machines because they do throw large pieces of saw dust in many directions while carving the clog. There is a gift shop where you can try on an purchase clogs and other souvenirs.

When in Netherlands, you have to see a clog factory. "Bart" showed us how clogs were made and he was funny and entertaining in his presentation. The store is quaint and there are clogs of all sizes, colours and even clogs hanging on an upside down Christmas tree! It was a very colourful store and provided lots of fun photos... More

When I think of The Netherlands, the first 2 things that come to mind are windmills and wooden shoes and so we made sure to visit both on our day tour from Amsterdam. The Clog Experience is located very close to where you park your car to visit Volendam. Inside there are clogs of every size that you can try... More

Nested in the "sleepy" town of Marken is the traditional clogs factory. It is interesting to know how clogs are made from wood and the little history behind its use. The demonstrator is humorous and made the explanation interesting and engaging. Inside the factory, you can find many different kind of authentic clogs and other Netherlands souvenir. The place is...
