We thoroughly enjoyed this gem in Haarlem. The paintings are wonderful, and the recorded guide is very informative. Not nearly as crowded as some of the other major museums in the Netherlands. If you're going to be visiting several museums, be sure to check out the cost-effectiveness of the museum card, which can be purchased at any participating museum in... More

Fantastic collection, incredibly helpful and welcoming staff and some real surprise pieces on display, eg Breugal the Younger's copy of Netherlandish Proverbs

Walking through the medieval streets of Haarlem puts you in the right frame of mind for Dutch masters, and this gallery does not disappoint. Set in an atmospheric alms house with a peaceful courtyard garden, the collection is clearly displayed and curated. The audio guide is great, and the English language signage clear. The collection is long enough to hold... More

They have a special exhibit with free audio guide that compares Hals to other masters. A fascinating experience!

I enjoyed visiting the Frans Hals Museum to view some beautiful Dutch art. The free audio guide offered more information about any paintings that caught your eye. There was a short movie available about the life of Frans Hals if, like me, you didn't know much about this famous artist. Lockers were available for a 1 euro refundable deposit for... More

This museum is a comprehensive collection of Haarlem's most famous Dutch Master. It is located in several attached rowhouses from the period when Hals worked. It discusses Hal's unique style and compares it with other artists from his period.

Not bad, kind of dry. Not the best choice if you have not slept in 30 hours and fighting jet lag. Cafe was typical. Audio guide is not bad.

Very fine exhibition of Hals and contemporary artists paintings : also interesting permanent exhibition. Very easy access by train from Amsterdam - 20 minutes, and nice walk from the station to the museum through old Haarlem.

hard to find in Haarlem but worth the trip. Great museum to a Rembrandt contemperary. Rembrandt got all the press but Frans and Dirck Hals were great artists in the Golden Age and deserve a better showcase. Glad its in Haarlem...bucaue they were "local boys" and made the subjects come to them.

I really don't like 'old' art, so my expectations of the Frans Hals museum were low. But it was great! The free headphones that provided me information of every painting were really convenient. Because of that, the paintings became really interesting. For foreigners, but also for Dutch people, I really recommend this museum.
