It was my last day in Amsterdam and I had seen a lot of other museums, so I thought this might end the day nicely. It was a total shambles. There were supposed to be places where you could taste and smell the various liquors, but they had run out of the slips of paper that allowed you to do... More

My partner and I were really looking forward to this attraction, having missed out on visiting on a prior trip to Amsterdam. It was one of the first things we booked once we knew we'd be returning, so we had high hopes. We both hoped the museum would have had a bit more depth, it did seem like just a... More

Great self guided tour with plenty of interactive activities. Highlights included; the corridor where you could smell the different Bols scents & reaching the end of the tour where you got 1 free cocktail & 2 free shots. Bols is really tasty! We had the elderflower cocktail & the strawberry cheesecake cocktail.

This is the place to go in Amsterdam, for some light fun! We came across the House of Bols Museum while taking a leisure walk in the Museum District. This seemed like a fun alternative. The self-tour started pretty serious, with some insight of the history of gin and genever and the differences between the two. Then there was a... More

The visit is enjoyable and drinks were nice, but I found it overpriced given that the museum part is essentially propaganda about the product. I know all these places are but it was a little heavy in this one.

I have to be honest, this was the most fun self guided tour we have ever been on. It takes about 45-hour to go through it completely. You get to explore all your senses and enjoy a spectacular journey through the world of liqueurs and genevers. Taste, smell, see, hear, feel and become acquainted with the exciting world of cocktails... More

Not a lot of people know about the House of Bols. It is a small museum that teaches you a little bit of the (rather long) history of this liquor brand. Don't be scared, you can browse through that in less than 10 minutes. The most impressive piece is a painting Rembrandt alledgedly used to pay his liquor bill. By... More

Nice relaxing tour that you can take at your own pace - plenty to do and is very interactive. The cocktails after the tour are brilliant - you order them from a computer depending upon your preferences and get made at the bar by knowledgeable bartenders! I'd recommend the aged mai tai!

Visited whilst on holiday and also as it was wet weather in Amsterdam. There is a self-guided tour which takes 30-40 mins depending on how much you read, watch, etc. including the history of Bols, how you taste/smell different flavours, and how genever is made. At the end of this, you get to choose a cocktail from a list of... More

If you like a cocktail then this is worth a visit. Lots of things to see and explore. You can walk around at your own leisure rather than a guided tour. Trying to guess what flavor the bols are was fun (didn't get many right). Very friendly staff Butterscotch bols is my favorite.

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighborhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
