the location is excellent, next to one of the few windmills of amsterdam (maybe the closest to the center)...cant beat that cause you must visit a windmill while in holland. the beers themselves are interesting enough, i recommend to buy the 5 beer tasting table and then just see which ones you prefer and order again and again.

We spent a couple hours sampling the beers and hanging out on the outdoor patio in the shadow of the giant windowmill and could've stayed all day if we hadn't already made plans for the evening. It was a treat to get to drink some craft beer in such a unique spot in one of the great cities of Europe.

My family and I visited Brewerij T'IJ on 10/12/13. This was a really a good experience to us as we got to taste the Original Beer from Netherlands. Nice beer comes with a reasonable price. On top of that, the staff there is very informative and helpful to answer our questions. We are glad to drop by and experience the... More

Title sums it up. My wife and I love beer and always try to visit local microbreweries anywhere we go. We took plenty of pictures of the windmill and exterior and worked up a strong thirst after our 20 min walk to get here (from Rembrant Square). The beer is great and the prices were the lowest we saw anywhere... More

This was a wonderful stop in our trip to Amsterdam. We got 5-beer beer tasting flights for 8 EUR each and a soda for a non-drinker at prices below anywhere else we've been. The bar itself is very minimalist and has an overall great vibe. Also - free wifi!

This is an great bar at an excellent micro brewery in Amsterdam. They have probably the best prices for what is some really good beer. They have several menu items, but all we tried was the meat and cheese plate.

Marvellously minimalist bar in front of the brewery. It's a good idea to start of with the tasting tray of what is currently being brewed before getting stuck into some serously strong beer. Dubbed, triples, wheat beer and IPAD are just some of the variety of beers. Highly recommended.

Although the beer is really good, the service is one of the worse in Amsterdam. I have been numerous times also taking all my guests to show them the windmill but honestly a part from that you can find their beers also in others bars and be served better. We ordered the tasting ( composed by several mini glasses of... More

When are you going to visit Amsterdam, go to the brewery Brouwerij't IJ. They produce their own way craft beer and the atmosphere is really fun. Tables and benches are shared. The beers are great. Ask for a Brouwerij't IJ blond. Super strong, very delicious. Super cool this place.

I tried their tripel in a restaurant, and had to find out where it was made! Came here with a bunch of friends, and was well rewarded. We did the tour (in English), and it's the best touristy tour I've done in Amsterdam. It wasn't some generic tour at all- I mean the actual on site brewery is only two... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
