Great beer, great prices, a line a mile long that moves really fast; locals and tourists alike. They have kept it simple. Reminded me bit of a croweded tapas bar in Barcelona because they have a window to serve small plates. While I didn't try the small plates a few brave souls did.

Their Columbus was the first beer I had after arriving in Amsterdam (I'd heard of it prior to our trip to Europe), at a cafe on the Herengracht. We visited the brewery the next day. Excellent beer, funky little pub, laid-back tour of about a half-hour. Outdoor seating is good when weather allows. The story is that a Dutch rock... More

I often visit when visiting with friends. The beer is cheap, and tastes horrible. I only like the no-nonsense staff, who do not like to be treated like typical serving slaves. Hillarious come backs when spoiled customers come in and demand to be treated like kings.

We had some time to kill before we left Amsterdam and my friend recommended we travel just outside the centre to find this small brewery which served various types of beer/ales/IPAs. It is a beautiful building with a windmill on a canal. The inside is quite small and there is a large outside seating area also. We came and sat... More

This is a really nice brewery with great beers. The "typical" dutch windmill makes for nice pictures, but their brews of beer and (if the weather is nice) awesome terrace are the real draw cards.

The Brouwerj 't IJ was a really neat brewery located beneath a traditional Holland windmill. The outside bier garden was great and we struck up wonderful conversation with fellow travelers on the community style picnic tables. The beer was wonderful and also a good value.

The brewery is located on the outskirts of Amsterdam but only a 15-20 minute cycle which is really nice. The brewery is easily recognisable by the windmill so you can't get lost but if you do, the locals are really friendly and will point you in the right direction. Obviously the only beer they sell here is the one they... More

Besides great selection of beers like natte, zatte, columbus and others, Brouwerij't IJ runs also this totally awesome, not boringly long and supper funny tour about how the delicious liquid gold is made and about how the best things sometimes come out of pure accidents :) We got to know a lot about brewing and resolved the mystery of who... The beer was good. We had the tripel zette and the Columbus. The tripel was refreshing and the Columbus more malty. Skip Heineken and try this brewery tour instead. We missed this tour but i'm sure it was better than the Heineken experience. English tours are fri/sat/sun at 15:30. Oh- you can also get a flight of beer. I wish... More
