I have lived in Amsterdam now for just about a year and I am a frequent visitor to Huis Marseille. The exhibitions are well designed and curated and the building is gorgeous. This place really is a treat for anyone visiting the city or worth repeat visits for long term residents. I suggest taking a few hours to weave your... More

We are keen photographers but found this place very odd.The only sign was a small one on the window,a closed front door even though it was a hot sunny day. We saw others walking away not finding a way in but we went up the stairs and tried the door and it magically opened. We had to look for a... More

Though the kind words about out building itself are appreciated, we do not feel the rest of this review reflects our museum. The outside of the building has as much signing as is allowed on our monumental building (there are quite a few restrictions on what an institution is allowed to do in this respect). All receptionists (right around the... More

First of all, the building is beautiful. Two old canal houses attached to one another, with high cealings and windows and completely renovated without losing the old charisma. They change expositions every three months which makes it different everytime. I loved that it has a garden. While it is in the middle of the city center, you could easily sit... More

As a dutch photography freelancer and general culture addict I am used to photography museums and galleries, but I have never seen a building like Huis Marseille. It's a privilege to watch photographs in an former assembly room for example. The unique structure of this house is amazing, especially the passages. Each of the six exhibition spaces has its own... Huis Marseilles exhibits cutting edge art in two beautifully restored canalhouses in the centre of Amsterdam. The exhibits frequently change so there is always something new to discover about contemporary photographers.

Huis Marseiile is one of the pretties museums in Amsterdam. I will not talk about the exibitions there, because they are more or less temporary, but I will talk about the first floor room. I have rarely seen such a nicely painted room. It has red painted wood walls and a gorgeously paited celling. I did not read anything about... More

This was my favorite museum from the ones I visited. I learned so much with the expositions, I had a lot of fun. The only problem is that there is an elevator for invalid people that can only access 1/3 of the museum, I felt very sad because I wanted to see it all.

Not as high profile as Foam, the other main photography musuem. This place concentrates on the process of production. Especially that old thing called film. Set in an old canal house you can wonder around in peace as there is no crowds.

Well worth the visit although be aware they do change their exhibitions regularly. When I was there it was a special on Russia and Sochi. There are also many other rooms containing works by other photographers. They add descriptions and the photographers thoughts to the titles which helps you visualise. The second major display was on the Northern Irish troubles.... More
