When in Amsterdam.... On a two day stop over after cruising The Rhine with Viking, we set out to explore. First observation is it's filthy dirty. Gum and cigarette butts cover the sidewalks. As much as I would like to be looking around at the sights, I was concerned with watching where I stepped. Food in restaurants was okay and... More

On our trip to Amsterdam we thought it would be funny to find out a little more about the Red Light District. I am so glad we did because the tour was hysterical, amusing and informative. Our tour guide, Steve, was shameless and explained all of the inner workings and norms of the city, down to how to roll a... More

The red light district is a must see, we went in the day time and in the evening! Both times it was interesting and an eye opener, with the prostitutes just standing in the shop window's and sex being sold so openly, hard to take it all in but all age groups where present and it was calm and chilled!... This is one of those "bucket list" things that all should do at some stage. The area is busy, no crowded with a mix of ages of both males and females although I would not recommend taking children. The area and the girls have been a part of Amsterdam for hundreds of years and served the needs of sailers in... More

The Protitution Information Centre (or PIC) is just that - a centre that seeks to provide information about the prostitution that happens in the Red Light District, from the viewpoint of those who either have worked as, or worked with the sex workers in the area. They have a small cafe and a small exhibition inside which serves both as... More

Tim was our guide and full of fun and information. The district has existed for hundreds of years and is as much a part of Amsterdam as the canals. The girls in the windows are a small part of the story which dates back to when the sailors needed to be looked after following months at sea. Perfectly safe and... More

You have to experience the district at night. Safe, busy with lots of people all walking down the side of the canals soaking in the atmosphere enjoying the views!!! Not what we expected but one more for the bucket list. The ladies are mostly in glass doors not wilndows and open them to allow their clients to enter. You have... More

It‘s good to know the stories behind the scenes. The history and development of the red light district -- the seemingly mysterious yet justified existence in the Netherlands. Really like our guide Lee

I don't give this advise because of morals. I'm just writing for the people who 'work' here. Things have changed here in the 90s and according to every report you could read, this is not your odd, tupical dutch example of a liberated culture anymore. This is foreign business now with 'work' between bars. I would recommend not going, for... More
