If your here for the Architecture... well you might be, or are just enjoying it, this is the canal to be. This is where all the grand old houses of Amsterdam are, and it can be fun to look at the carving above doors to try and guess what the family did. A pleasant afternoon walk.

Amsterdam is not one of the prettiest cities in the world but the Grachte are about the one thing that does make an impression. It is worth strolling along and crossing the bridges to view the buildings along the rivers. I loved all the bicycles and flower baskets hanging at random interval on the bridges.

It is very close to the Flower Market, hosts beautiful buildings in the typical old Dutch architecture, heard that in the past only rich people could afford living there.

The displays were well put together but we were interested in the canal system, how it works and the locks but there was really no information about that.

Also on my way to work, enjoy the Grachten all together, you won't get bored. The cosy and curious streets make you want to wander around for quite some time, try some cute coffeeplaces or sandwich corners. Enjoy Amsterdam.

Great street to talk along while in Amsterdam. Lot's of random clothing, cheese and food shops all along, even a few "coffeeshops" along the way if you wan't to take advantage of that. Great walk on a nice afternoon going along one of the canals and even bringing you past the Red Light district so a very good option if... More

One of the most famous, and probably the most photographed canals of the Amsterdam. Lined with traditional gabled houses, tall and narrow, their leaning forward façades are beautifully reflected in the water. Romantic and atmospheric place, yet trendy and full of life.
