But interesting buildings for a walk around the canalside - but not a lot more interesting than many of the other streets nearby

If you collect those little blue and white Dutch houses this canal abounds with them. The gentle men's canal, one the best inner canals.

I have stayed on this canal three times now. The buildings are very nice as this was where the businesses were, Today some consulates are housed along this canal. Nice restaurants round and about the canal and it is so close to the centre of Amsterdam and the flower market and Ann Frank house and Dam Square

This is a beautiful area. Quiet all day and evening with a scattering of small restaurants and bars. Houseboats line the canal and it is as lovely at night as it is during the day.

This is one of the three great canals for us. Stroll the length and take in Amsterdam from top to bottom. Not our favorite but still a great canal to walk along

This is the only street where you'll find that the houses are more than 6m wide! They are beautifully decorated as they symbolize the wealth of the occupants of the buildings once this part of town was developed in the 17th century.

Whether you explore this area on foot or in a canal boat, it is still magnificent. Splendid architecture interrupted by small outdoor cafes or bars makes this a very relaxed place to walk around. It has to be seen of you are visiting Amsterdam.

If your here for the Architecture... well you might be, or are just enjoying it, this is the canal to be. This is where all the grand old houses of Amsterdam are, and it can be fun to look at the carving above doors to try and guess what the family did. A pleasant afternoon walk.

You haven't been in Amsterdam unless you walked at the Herengracht, the houses are so different, each with their own special gables , the elite neighborhood.

Amsterdam is not one of the prettiest cities in the world but the Grachte are about the one thing that does make an impression. It is worth strolling along and crossing the bridges to view the buildings along the rivers. I loved all the bicycles and flower baskets hanging at random interval on the bridges.
