With the Light Festival on, this specific canal is beautifully illuminated with lighting designs by artists however, even without this is it a beautiful canal to visit! Whether you walk, cycle or take a cruise, you'll fall in love with the canal's beauty!

Our hotel was located on this canal. It's a nice walk and interesting to look at all the architecture. It is more residential so you need to look for cafes and shopping off on the side streets.

Nice canal street right out side the center on Amsterdam. I have walked and biked it many times it is filled with shops and restaurants nice and quit compared to the center of town. A good place to stroll and just take in the sights of town. I think it is worth checking out all the main canal streets because... More

Well you probably knew that already. Loads of quirky boutiques and shops, lovely bridges and pretty canals. Don't forget the coffee shops of course!

we stayed on this canal at Sunhead, it's a gorgeous canal made for walking as previous reviews say a different direction/time of day changes the views. As previously stated watch out for bikes although everyone is soooo friendly even if you're at fault.

The great thing about Amsterdam is it is very walk-able and Herengracht Street offers a wonderful walk. It is a ring street that circles through the old city and ends in Amstel which is the old original part of Amsterdam. On both sides of Herengracht street are rows of old buildings covering the 15th, 16th, 17, 18th and 19th centuries.... More

We stayed at hotel Ambassade on Herrengracht. Great location in lovey part of Amsterdam lots of nearby eating options and less noisy and seedy than other parts of Amsterdam.

The Museum of Handbags and Purses was interesting. I thought it was free entry but it was actually 9 Euros. My husband was not impressed. The old house is charming and they have turned a couple of rooms into a cafe and it overlooks the canal in Herengracht.

Walk the canals, stop at the bars, check out the market, some great arty bookshops too, what's not to love about wandering in the streets here? Oh - look out for the cyclists, often to be seen texting rather than looking where they're going, and being from the UK, I was mystified about cycle/pedestrian/tram priorities - made it home in... Stunning location, stayed in a beautiful little hotel on this canal. Close to shopping, museum (Anne Frank), transport and dining. Try Arendsnes (brown cafe) on this canal. Great beer and bar snacks.
