lovely little part of the city

Excellent walk , various shops along the way , nice hotels to stay it , only a short walk to the city centre. A pleasant way to spend an hour walking besides the canal.

For us Amsterdam is about strolling along the canals and enjoying the sights. There is so much architecture on both sides and life on the canal. Even on bitterly cold days in January this is a treat and we always find a 'brown bar/cafe' to warm up.

Herengracht is a beautiful street in a wonderful area that has a great nightlife scene with the best Dutch beer bar. We alway's make a couple of trip's to ARENDSNEST on Herengracht and it's made even better by the superb architecture, the building's both sides of the canal's look amazing as do the canal's and bridges. Go of a night... More

The reason being, many important businessmen and mayors of the city had lived here in the 17th century. On a Christmas day, I felt so bored and decided to get out of my... More

Fabulous route to walk through from shopping to coffee shops. Looks better from the boats on a canal trip.

The city of Amsterdam is laced with canals that radiate outward in semi-circles. The Herengracht is one of these canals. It offers some remarkable architecture that date back from the Golden Age when merchants display their wealth by commissioning the building of luscious housing. The more wealthy the merchant, the more extensive the outside ornaments and architecture.
