Amstel is an old original part of Amsterdam and the "Amster" part of Amsterdam comes from this area's name. There is a large river here and you can cross over easily with many attractions. In this area you will see very prominantly the Hermitage Museum of Amsterdam which offers shows from the Hermitage Museum in Russia. In addition the Portugese... More

There is absolutely no better way to see Amsterdam than on a canal trip. So relaxing in such a beautiful city would definitely recommend doing one on a stay in Amsterdam!

Pretty sites all along! Amsterdam is best appreciated on cycle. However if you do not have the luxury of time, we too didn't, hop on to one of the numerous boat run by various operators and enjoy the city's pretty sites! The Bridges, the other boats ferrying tourists and locals, this is one of the do-not miss experiences of Amsterdam

Just a really nice city, especially around Christmas time. Met my girlfriend here after I had been travelling for a while. We did an educational walk about the sex trade which is well worth doing and just had a great time walking about the winter streets and sampling local product.

With this water it all started !!! Because Amsterdam started with a "Dam in the Amstel" through the years Amsterdam started to exsist and now a 750 years later or so, we got Amsterdam like it is now. The amstel is a river strait through Amsterdam. Outsite Amsterdam the river is in my opinion more beautiful with lots of nature... More

This is the big one. A river really rather than canal and the river that gave Amsterdam it's name. I prefer to navigate the Amstel by canal cruise rather than by foot. But of course cycling is always an option in this great city

We wee lucky to be staying on a House Boat opposite The Amstel Hotel and spent hours sitting outdide with a beer watching the world float by. You can take trips down the river on a boat or a walk along the bankside at night was nice.

We had a wonderful day cycling along the Amstel through countryside and villages- beautiful peaceful scenery and plenty of places to stop for coffee or lunch. Hire a bike and just go for it!

I know many people will disagree, but I think this river is the soul of Amsterdam. More like a huge canal than river, somehow it manages to follow you all over this beautiful city. Lovely by daylight, even more romantic at night, it is lovely to see how life goes on by its banks.Do not miss some fresh cup of... More
