Visited Carre to see a family member in Priscilla! Lovely clean theatre! I had a great time would love to see a show "in the round" due to its lovely horseshoe shape.

Every time I go to this theatre, I'm impressed by its beauty. It was originally build as a circus. Now they have besides circusses, world artists performing there. Musicals from abroad. Great shows and singers from Holland too.

One of the great European theatres - well-maintained, beautiful foyers and auditorium. And we saw a wonderful production of Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

Nice place for great performers. Diner in the roof restaurant and in the cellar are not that exciting.... ask for seats in the stalles those are good enough.

Beautiful theatre. I had seen this show before in Zurich but this setting really added to its magnificence. Tickets are very cheap compared to what seeing this show costed elsewhere. It was subtitled both in English and Dutch via two beautifully decorated screens on the sides of the stage... Can't wait to be able to attend another performance here!!

One of our oldest theaters is the Royal Theatre Carré, a Neo-Renaissance theatre on the banks of the river Amstel. When the theatre was founded in 1887, it was originally meant as a permanent circus building (in winter season). Founder was Oscar Carré, hence the name: the theatre is not square! International celebrities like Josephine Baker and the clown Grock... More

A cosy place for an amazing musical experience. Nice location, nice people and a nice show. Even though I was solo I recommend it for couples and families also.

This beautiful theatre in the centre of Amsterdam, is located along the river called the Amstel. I have been there several times to see all kind of different shows. On the 19th of Juli I visted it once again. I enjoyed a non stop 2 hour exciting performance of the amazing Cirque Eloize. This is yet to be add to... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
