Beautiful theatre. I had seen this show before in Zurich but this setting really added to its magnificence. Tickets are very cheap compared to what seeing this show costed elsewhere. It was subtitled both in English and Dutch via two beautifully decorated screens on the sides of the stage... Can't wait to be able to attend another performance here!!

One of our oldest theaters is the Royal Theatre Carré, a Neo-Renaissance theatre on the banks of the river Amstel. When the theatre was founded in 1887, it was originally meant as a permanent circus building (in winter season). Founder was Oscar Carré, hence the name: the theatre is not square! International celebrities like Josephine Baker and the clown Grock... More

A cosy place for an amazing musical experience. Nice location, nice people and a nice show. Even though I was solo I recommend it for couples and families also.

This beautiful theatre in the centre of Amsterdam, is located along the river called the Amstel. I have been there several times to see all kind of different shows. On the 19th of Juli I visted it once again. I enjoyed a non stop 2 hour exciting performance of the amazing Cirque Eloize. This is yet to be add to... More

This is pure magic - from start to end. We were most likely the only tourists attending to this circus, and we didn't feel uncomfortable at all. In the entrance we were so warm welcomed by everyone. The circus itself is in Dutch - of course. You don't need to understand the language to have a good time, we enjoyed... More

Firsly - beware of hoax sites that sell tickets online! We had to make a second purchase at the theatre for Sound of Music. well worth it! We had gallery seats whic is quite steeped but is manageable. There is a restaurant you can consider before the show. We had coffee and cake. Stunning professional performance.

The Carre theatre is worth while visiting when visiting Amsterdam for a couple of days. If you plan your trip in advance, look it up and you may find a pop concert or another interesting thing going on. You can purchase tickets on the Internet and pick them up shortly before the performance. There are a lot of good cafes... More

First off, booking tickets from the UK for a performance here was an easy task thanks to the amazingly helpful staff (and a small hand from google translate) It is an impressive yet intimate theatre, putting you very close to the stage wherever you are seated. We came to watch Within Temptation and the sound quality was superb, enriching the... More

I was lucky enough to be given tickets to Caro Emerald for a gift. I have never been in a theatre so beautiful. The sound was the best ever. Caro and her wonderful band made all my dreams come true in one night. I will return whenever she does. I could imagine this old building as a circus venue. So... More

This is a totally unique theatre and although many people fit into this setting is still gives a special sphere. The stage is almost the same height as the seats so you feel part of the show yourself. This is a place to visit at least once and remember the wonderful magic that theatre creates.

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
