This place is the Dutch Ronnie Scotts/ Village Vanguard. I've been to many of the world's iconic jazz clubs and despite being small, scruffy and with no global name acts, the Jazz Cafe Alto is one of the most enjoyable and authentic. It's just a great night out for jazz nerds and nicely balanced lovers of life. Big on beer... More

We were here two nights. You can't beat the atmosphere. The cafe is small and cozy. The musicians were so good... Thanks!

As long as you go about couple of hours before live music starts, it is guaranteed to have a wonderful time. Very small space, full of character, incredible experience. A must do in Amsterdam.

Great performance. I didn't expected much for a sunday night, but it was the best music I've listened to in my trip. Just go there, get a beer and enjoy.

We went to this bar after reading the great reviews on Trip Advisor. The reviews were right, the music was unreal. We went in a Monday night and got there at 9:15pm, any later and we would not have got a seat. Pianist Haan (not sure of last name) was playing and if you like the piano this bloke was... More

Classic Jazz club. Small and dark with lots of wood this place is great to see and hear live Jazz. Get in by 9:00pm if you want a seat otherwise dance away where you stand. The club carries a 5E covercharge but don't let that stop you from a full evening of live music. In between sets the band members... More

We went on a Wednesday night and heard a local saxophone player and his band with a new trumpet player sitting in. Small, dark bar, beer and jazz, how can you go wrong? The place filled up to overflowing. Typical of a local jazz venue.

Wandered in sometime after midnight on a weekday and the place was lively. Great crowd of people and great music. Had a beer at the bar, listened to the band, and soaked up the vibe. Discovered the bar purely be accident while I was walking through the area, but if I'm ever there again I will make it a destination.

There is a 5 euro cover charge on the door, but this is well worth it and tends to keep the casual tourist stoners out. Live Jazz plays from about 10 till 2. If you want a seat get there by 9 or 9.30. You might also be lucky enough to grab a seat between sets as the night goes... More

We went to this place after dinner and arrived around 11 p.m. on a Saturady night. The entrance fee was 5 Euro, to cover the live music. It was worth every cent. The place was quite full, but we soon got a stool each at the bar. This is a jazz bar, but every second saturday is blues night and... More
