A very small, intimate yet lively venue with friendly staff (thanks Ali) and most importantly great music! Consistently great bands and ensembles: we could have gone back every night of the year! A great crowd, with locals and tourists, it certainly fills up but there´s always space for one more on the dance floor (the bar!) Drinks well priced, and... More

Cafe Alto isnt big, so if you want a seat to the evenings free jazz, come early, they open at 9, the jazz starts at 10. We had a great evening with a very! Good trio. To make it even better the drinks are very reasonable priced.

First time listening to jazz live, wonderful experience. Good selection of drinks, efficient service even during the set. Got busy through the night, so arrive early for seats near the front

Mixed local and traveling crowd, definitely there for the music, drinks were good value for A'dam, no food on offer so fill up earlier. Music was very good the night I went.

Great little cafe/bar next to leidseplein - fantastic vibe into the early hours, best to get there before 10 to get a seat or good position to see the bands. We went for 2 out of the 3 nights we were in Amsterdam and both nights were great. It's basic but friendly and you need to be fairly fit to... More

We went here on a saturday night and the music was excellent. Table service as well which was handy as the bar was packed! Conviently located for the tram back to central station! Definitely recommend a trip here if you like live music and are in Amsterdam!

Lovely personal venue, full to the rafters, and friendly staff willing to make up drinks that aren't on the menu. Not quite big enough for a dance, but still very good to sit and listen.

Hi there James, thanks for your compliments! Dancing IS possible but only on your own square foot... Hope to see you again some day. All the best, Café Alto More

This is a fantastic venue for live jazz. Purely by chance we had the good fortune to see Hans Dulfer (father of Candy) and his superb band here. Great entertainment, fab atmosphere and a MUST in Amsterdam if you love quality live music. Only thing - why is it called Alto when the logo outside clearly depicts a Tenor??!!

Went on a Thursday night and the place was packed with a crowd that showed their appreciation to the band. Good music, nice atmosphere and crowded -- as a jazz club should be. Lots of places to eat in the area as well as some other music spots nearby.

Great place, nice staff and espcially good music. This should be on your list if you visit Amsterdam and if you like good live music.
