This is a tiny jazz bar. We went their two day's in a row and it was completely loaded with guests, but in some way the staff managed to get orders out quickly and smoothly. Both nights had the same main artist. Even though I don't remember his name he was excellent. The second night he had a young guest... More

Our daughter had been a few times and had told us it would be good, but 4 hours after arriving we'd been treated to 3 great acts, really laid back atmosphere, waiter service and a guarantee that we would go back the next time we're in Amsterdam.

Went there on a Monday night and while the bar was full there was no problem getting a seat. It is a good small venue for jazz with firefly stag and a mixed crowd who seemed to know their jazz. The trio who played that night were excellent three great musicians who played very well together and were still going... More

Went there a Saturday night, 5,- € fee, quite packed place. Got a seat at the bar, convenient for drink supply via the fast working staff, the band was marvelous. Places near stage are taken right after the place opens, so if you want to sit close, be there before 9.

We visited on a Saturday evening at about 11pm. There was a door charge for part of the evening of 5 Euro per person. We were given a cloak-room ticket in case we need to leave and come back. The cafe is long and narrow, with a small stage at the far end. It was packed - seriously busy -... More

We had a choice Bourbon St. or Alto cafe jazz, it was my birthday and we wanted something a bit different . what a night , we managed as if by a miracle to walk in as two people were vacating seats at the bar so we were set up for a good night , bartenders make a place and... More

Another superb visit to Jazz cafe alto: amazing live ensemble, a well stocked bar, and good vibes all round. Managed to find some stools to perch on and soaked up some smooth saxaphone. Come back to Amsterdam every year, and for the past 3 years this small gem has been on the agenda every time. Comes recommended.

Small and perpetually packed, Alto Jazz is a requirement for those who love jazz. Open every night with a great line up of musicians. Drink prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is intimate and buzzing. I was hooked on the first visit and get back at any opportunity.

Sadly a bit of a tourist trap now, but decent jazz music nonetheless every night in a dark, compact, dingy old venue - just like it should be. Only thing that's changed in the 25 years I've been coming here since I first lived in Amsterdam is the lack of cigarette smoke (thankfully). Aim to get there just before 9pm... More

My wife and I went to the club on 29/3/15 andhada fantastic time. The Jazz Quartet, Wouter Kiers Quartet, are not to be missed. The venue is in the old 'brown cafe' style andis small but very atmospheric. The beer prices are reasonable and they have craft beers in bottles. All in all it was a great evingout.
