It is easy to miss this cafe, and it is an odd shape for a music venue - long and thin. It is a bit scruffy, but the atmosphere and the music wasn't bad.

Being in Amsterdam for the New Year had been highly touted to us. The fireworks, the crowds, the noise! But where to spend a few hours before the fireworks at midnight? We were staying a few streets over from Alto, and it was a good choice. Although the 10 euro cover was a surprise, the drinks were reasonable and the... More

Have been to Cafe Alto ever since I moved to Amsterdam fourteen years ago. And it is still one of the oldest running jazz cafes in town. Tonight I heard my friend Olaf Keus (drummer/bandleader) play with his quintet. The band played well and the audience applauded at the right moments! The place was still pretty packed when I left... My hotel sent us there, Wednesday night regular band is the Greenfield5Tet who are superb. Great music from outstanding musicians, everyone is first rate. Music only no singer the night we went. No cover charge, drinks are very reasonable and the sound is great. I have been to clubs all over the world and this one, with this band, is... More

A realy cool place to hang out! First you enjoy a beer/drink while you listen to a live show and after many, many more delicious Belgian beers you meet lots of International people! Love this place!

We had heard good things of the venue so we decided to check it out on our trip. The astmosphere in the place was pleasant even before the band started, but it turned almost rowdy (by a jazz gig standards anyway) after the band started. Good acoustics and a decent beer selection make Cafe Alto a worthwhile place for anyone... More

The place has a fantastic atmosphere. There I found a quintet of young but very talented musicians that really warmed up the audience. On the bad side, the place is small and I was there on Saturday and I had to stand for a while. The entrance ticket was 5 euros, but the drinks inside were quite cheap (3 euros... More

Alto Jazz Bar is worth visiting if you are a fan of jazz music. The band was amazing, the atmosphere was pleasant and cozy. This combined with great company and drinks makes Alto a perfect location for a night out.

greenfield quintet. Great sound. Vocals were real nice and the club was funky. Maybe too crowded for the fire Marshall's but to come across this place was a real find. I would think they have great musicians often.

As me and my friends wandered through mysterious streets of Amsterdam we came across this little bar, the sounds from inside, the sounds of live music , people talking and laughing, has drawn us inside. There aren't many seats, in fact there is not much place to hang around at all, but it has got the vibe. People from behind... More
