This is a nice stop to take a breath and enjoy some quiet time. Very interesting history. The chapels are beautiful and the entire area is an oasis in the middle of all the craziness outside. You are asked to be quiet and respect the wishes of the residents. Worth a trip!

It's like entering wonderland via a red door on a busy Amsterdam square and finding yourself in a small place with beautifully kept houses, 2 churches and gardens. The history is clearly explained and it was a wonderful contrast to the places we had just visited.

Stepping through the doorway into the Begijnhof was such a surprise. It is beautiful and so, so quiet compared to the busy streets outside. The city's oldest house is tucked in there-one of two remaining wooden houses in Amsterdam. Read the story of Cornelia Arents before you go to understand why she is buried in the gutter instead of the... More

My parents and I popped into here during our 5 nights in Amsterdam. Very sweet and attractive. You do however have to respect the rules and wishes of the residents: no photos, no dogs, no cycles etc. was personally pleased to see that the English Reformed Church is currently occupied by my particular denomination, the Church of Scotland.

Interesting to visit but there's nowhere to sit and enjoy. Great for quirky camera shots. Look for the little plaques on the walls and see if you can find the almost secret door if you do go in via the Amsterdam museum.

I have just visited here a couple of hours ago and it was exactly what I had read. A calm, serene, quaint little are in the middle of a busking square. To the untrained eye (or Amsterdam traveller) you wouldn't know this place existed, however it is I'm the top ten attractions of Amsterdam! Years ago it was where single... More

This is not a place that you will want to spend a long time at, but it's a wonderful example of a historical "gated community". It is also very pretty. Most importantly, it is lived in by residents who are tolerant, so don't take advantage!

I'm glad I persisted in finding this secluded spot. It is fairly small but, if you time it right, you can get there when there are not hoards of groups going round at the same time. It doesn't take long to go round but you can sit for a while in the Belgian or English church. Several areas are barriered... More

An oasis of calm in central Amsterdam. Not easy to find, but worth the effort. Just seeing the restored 17th and 18th cityscape is wonderful.

It's quite hard to find, and I'm not sure it's worth it. Yes, place is nice but there are a lot of other nice places around.
