Amsterdam is known for having a soft spot towards cannabis. Therefore it makes perfect sense for the city to have a museum dedicated to this controversial aspect of society. The Hash, Marihuana & Hemp Museum attracts many curious visitors from around the world. Established in 1985 in the famous red light district of Amsterdam, the Hash, Marihuana & Hemp Museum is a tribute to the history of hemp and cannabis. What the Hash, Marihuana &Hemp Museum offers The Hash, Marihuana & Hemp Museum offers visitors an insight into the history of one of the world's most commonly used drugs. It also showcases the earlier uses of the cannabis plant. It is interesting to discover that, aside from recreational consumption, cannabis and hemp were used for various medicinal, cultural and religious purposes. Through the ages, the cannabis plant has proven to be one of the most versatile and renewable resources ever known to humankind. The museum shows the commercial viability the plant for the future through photography, films, documentaries and paintings. The Hash, Marihuana & Hemp Museum also holds a carefully chosen selection of items from the world's largest collection of cannabis-related objects. It covers many of the aspects of, and reasons for, cannabis consumption. In order to display even more of this unique collection, in 2008 a new venue was added - the Museum Gallery, located just down the street from the original museum. Visitors exit the museum through the Sensi Seed Bank, flagship store of sister company Sensi Seeds, where, in addition to buying T-shirts and accessories, you can also browse the large selection of medicinal-grade cannabis genetics from Sensi Seeds! History of the Hash, Marihuana and Hemp Museum This unique museum was founded by Ben Dronkers in 1985, after over a decade of collecting different kinds of objects associated with the cannabis plant. He believes that the Museum is not only of interest to cannabis users, but caters to those who are interested in learning about the plant, and even those who are simply curious about the relationship between its industrial and psychoactive varieties. With this extra-ordinary exhibition, the Hash, Marihuana & Hemp Museum definitely makes the list of Amsterdam attractions that tourists should not miss visiting.

Really interesting and suits the city. It is a two parts visit with the gallery a bit further up the road. It shows the different use of cannabis and hemp in a factual way.

Wouldn't advise visiting this museum. Was 1 cabinet worth viewing (about how they hid items, but you can find this out via the film Mr Nice). There is 2 parts to the museum, you get a tour via a headset, nothing special especially for €9.

We went there but I found that there are many others places I could have been going to instead. It's a cheap entry fee...and a quick walk thru but in my opinion no need to rush there.

I found the museum very interesting, they touched on a lot of interesting aspects of marijuana & hemp and was very well presented. I would definitely recommend that you pay a visit.

I don't typically spend my visit reading everything there is to read in a museum, but this one I thought was very interesting. I visited with my 3 teenage kids, and it was interesting for them as well. I didn't feel like the tour was inappropriate for them at all.

Much more interesting and well presented than I was expecting. Of course it was pro-marihuana, but without being preachy. It is small, but has some cool things on display. Your ticket also includes the Hemp Gallery, with is less of a gallery and more of a hemp museum - also very interesting and just a 30 second walk away so... More

Very instructed and informative, it shows how hemp can be used in all different ways, economically spiritually and for health purposes....meaning everything you cant hear or see in main medias.

I really enjoyed the marihuana part of this museum - you can visit this first then head to the hemp part. I enjoy reading information and I liked that you could wander and listen to various bits on the headset. There was a real range of artefacts and some fascinating photographs - I love the way the story of this... More

There is much conflicting information out there so I found this authoritative source for historical and current uses of Hemp and its its 'family' really interesting and useful.
