Pretty neat place to "walk around" in.. Many different shops, cafes. Many different types of shops. The walk alone is worth the time to see the area yet be able to hit the unique shops in the area. Worth the time to walk thru!

Lovely, if slightly over-developed, shopping area. Charming shops and cafes on streets perpendicular to the main central canals.

De Negen Straatjes (the nine small streets) are located only a few hundred yards behind the Palace on the Dam square. It's exactly that, namely 9 narrow little streets, but the location is perfect and easily walkable. The area is dissected by 3 of the major canals and the views are absolutely stunning. The area is relatively small. but offers... More

I found the shops to be a little too edgy for me, wandered over into the Jordaan area and came across cute shops almost right away! There are some good dessert shops on wijdeheistg though

The sub neighbourhood consists of nine side streets in central Amsterdam and the Canal is bordering on one side. It is a shopping precinct with big names making up the majority of the shops but you still have some smaller retailers. It did not have any great appeal to me but it was nice to meander around. However, there is... More

This is the area of Amsterdam where you can explore without watching droves of international tourists who are only seeking red light windows or coffee shops. The Negen Straatjes (Nine Streets) are a melting pot of hip and happening Amsterdam. There is everything you could want here - tiny boutiques, wonderful cafés and restaurants, individual shops (from clothes to jewelry)... More

Over the last 8 years or so, every year we visit Amsterdam. This charming little neighbourhood is always on our list, but this year we did not like it so much. Gone are the places for fun shopping and finding little different items not found anywhere else. Many of the little local stores and ateliers are now replaced by the... More

In the heart of Amsterdam the area is full of second division shops and other offers. Depends on what you like but for us it's worth the extra walk to the Jordaan area. But you have to do all of Amsterdam to make your mind up. Every area has its advantages and disadvantages.
