Very interesting part of Amsterdam. Best to explore with one of the many canal tours. Very nice old houses and churches long the banks of the canal and excellent for strolling, even during the late evening.

This canal along with surrounding canals are such a delight to meander while in Amsterdam. You're surrounded by people on bicycles, walking, local cafés, wine bars, little shops And overall just a perfect way to spend an afternoon.

It's a fantastic area to just wander around and admire the canals and boats. Very beautiful scenes for the photography fans. Also good for some shopping and chilling at cafes.

You'll end up using this street as a central navigation point but it is actually rather beautiful with a feeling of real Amsterdam. Watch out for the bicycles at all junctions.

One of the 3 main canals. Nice for walking, watching people at a sidestreet cafee or shop at many of the interresting shops.

One of many beautiful canals around Amsterdam. I highly recommend taking a boat trip, or hiring a pedal boat like we did, or even a powered boat, and exploring all the canals for half a day. It's a lovely place, and there are lots of quirky floating houses in many places that you can only appreciate from the water.

I stayed in Prinsengracht during my visit ... the nicest thing was that we were so close to the canal where you can see the people cruising around with their boats.... nice place to get the coffee in the morning ....
