We covered all of the must see/do things in Amsterdam and were struck by the dinginess and youth orientation of the central city. Then, we found our way to the Historical Museum tucked away just off of the shopping street. This museum tells you the whole story of Amsterdam and the Dutch, how they had once been the dominant power... More

This museum offers a lot of Amsterdam history. It is also presented well how Amsterdam became what itis today. The hierarchy, the houses, the people, canals, and everything. If you love Amsterdam, this is the place that could offer you more information in a fun way.

The first museum in Amsterdam that we visited is the Historical Museum. We bought our museuumkart here. When the pretty lady at the ticketsales learned this is the first museum visit for us, she said we made an excellent choice. I was not disappointed! The display of cloth patches from all over the world is so beautiful! my sister and... More

If you plan to visit museums in Amsterdam and get to know a bit of its history, then HISTORISCH MUSEUM should be your first stop. By doing so you´ll be able to understand how it all began in historic terms. You´ll learn the fundamentals of Amsterdam as well as " The Golden Age" of the city. It´s all there. And... More

The museum had it's Amsterdam DNA exhibit on the top floor, which is were we spent most of our time. You're given a QR code for your language (or at least one you can understand, hopefully!) and you can use this to activate mini-films voiced in that language. The exhibit takes you along Amsterdam's history for (roughly) the last thousand... More

Liked this museum for the way the history of Amsterdam was presented in a very easy and reader friendly way. Worth a visit to see the highlights of the city history. Suitable for kids too

The temporary exhibit here, Amsterdam DNA, was cool, and very modern, and fun to walk around. The rest of the museum was poorly laid-out at times and it was occasionally difficult to figure out where to go next. Most everything was well-documented in English, and overall it does give you a very good picture of Amsterdam and its history, so... More

This is a splendid museum of historic artifacts and paintings gallery. I visited this year also the London Historical Museum, but Amsterdam's museum looks better with its master's gallery. Time for visit: 2-3 hours.

You have to visit this museum if you are in Amsterdam! It is very exciting and informative. You can feel Amsterdam's spirit and you can understand why there are so many legal things that are prohibited in other countries. It will be very cheap if you take tickets in red Tour Tickets office.
