I admit that I do not know how to appreciate paintings. So I did not visit the art museums. 10 Euros entrance as of August 2009. They don't allow your bags, you can use their lockers provided for free. Some require 1 euro coin but you get back the coin when you return the key. The introduction touch screen displays... More

This was an interesting museum that offered a good perspective on Amsterdam. I was mildly annoyed in the first few rooms as I was looking for more signage (everything is in Dutch and English) and it seemed like items were not in any particular order. But after a few rooms everything fell into place and flowed nicely. I particularly found... More

We popped in with only about 45 minutes until closing; what a mistake. The museum is bigger than it looks and many of the displays have interactive explanations and are housed in plexy-glass boxes, affording 360* viewing. I plan to make this my first stop the next time we visit Amsterdam. Oh... but take a newspaper or something with you... More

This is a fascinating place to visit. Stop here first to get oriented on the fabulous development of cultures, governments, religions, and history that makes up present day Amsterdam. There are weird and interesting objects, artwork, items dredged up from the canals and a ton of other interesting items, videos and displays. I really can't say enough how much I... More

This is an incredibly interesting museum that tells the story of Amsterdam's history and its people. It is HUGE, so don't go there if you're in a hurry. The digital exhibit on the growth is very cool and so is the way art is interspersed with the other elements. I highly recommend going. More

I'd agree with the other reviewers - this is an excellent museum and an absolute 'must see' in Amsterdam. I particularly like the upstairs section, which focusses on social history and the real-life experience of Amsterdam residents over the past 60 years or so. There are lots of films and sound recordings, all translated into English, together with a heap... More

I would recommend this museum to anyone visiting the city. It appears very unassuming from the street and when you first go in you might think there doesn't appear to be much there apart from paintings. However, there are so many rooms to explore and even though we were very methodical I'm sure we missed some! It's very interesting with... More

Fantastic museum of Amsterdam's history. Lots and lots of exhibits laid out in an interesting manner. There is so much to see (and I guess a lot of history to cover). There is even a bicycle with a large basket that you can ride (it's fixed to the ground though), and a carillon of organ bells - I'm not sure... More
