Owner description: The Jewish Historical Museum is a modern museum of Jewish heritage housed in four monumental synagogues near Waterlooplein in the heart of Amsterdam. Three permanent exhibitions present the history and culture of the Jewish people in the Netherlands. In addition to the three permanent exhibitions, the museum always offers two great temporary exhibitions and the fun JHM Children's museum.

went to see the museum but had lunch at their café first. I think this is the first time I saw gefilte fish on a menu. they also had only one person behind the counter taking orders, making the food, and serving. ordered the fish cake sandwich which is chopped up fish but the bun was 3 times as large... I toured the museum with a limited time period of about an hour but was able to see most of the items. My backpack needed to be checked into a locker. The ticket also includes two other sights so I made sure to see those as well.

Set in two old synagogues, this museum is full of exhibits on Jewish ritual and life. Beautlful things, particularly well-presented. You learn a lot here, whether you know anything about Judaism or not.

The museum is well laid out and full of information about the history of the Jewish people in Amsterdam. The Portuguese synagogue is a magnificent building.

The current photographic exhibitions are up to the normal high standard for this museum. The permanent display is always a pleasure to revisit as it contains so many beautiful pieces - and the way the history and culture is presented is just brilliant.

Housed in four former Synagogues this beautiful museum gives a good insight in the Jewish religion and culture in The Netherlands. There are also temporary exhibitions on different subjects of which I saw the excellent photography exhibition “Masterpieces from the Howard Greenberg Collection” The collection gives a perfect overview of the once prosperous Jewish community, particularly in Amsterdam. Many Jews... More

The lay out was amazing with a mixture of personal items and ceremonial pieces. We learned a lot but in some of the cases, the light from e windows facing you when you were trying to read the descriptions of the articles within made reading impossible

A nice museum, but in my opinion lacking a lot of information and exhibits. They really need to collect more information. The visit was included with the ticket to the Portuguese Synagogue.

This museam is housed inside four old synagogues, which in itself makes it worth a visit. The permanent exhibition describes the life and culture of the Jewish community in the Netherlands. Really well worth a visit. It museum is also opposite the Spanish and Portugese Synagogue, which is still in active use, but be visited at certain times,

There was so much more information than I expected. It was 12Euros which included the audio tour (worth it). The focus was on the Jewish community in Netherlands, focused on Amsterdam. The history started back in the 1600's. I learned a lot about the persecution/migration of the Jews and their culture. They used video clips throughout the museum to share... More
