There is so much here to see it was a bit overwhelming. If you are a connoisseur of all art types, this is your place. I prefer modern art and wish I would have visited the Van Gogh with my limited time instead.

ok, I'm a sucker for Rembrandt and Vermeer. But there's lots to see here , it's well laid out, The ticket lines can be too long, but there are ways around that , Buy something and a ticket at the gift shop in the Platz/Plein for instance. You'll want a souvenir anyway. You can spend a day wandering around, but... More

If you're intent on a cultural tour of Amsterdam, the Rijksmuseum is an absolute must. Simply as one of the world's premier art galleries you have to put it on your itinerary, whether you're in town for two days or two weeks. And it won't disappoint. The ten-year closure was necessary to save the buildings foundations from its age and... More

Great to see so many great works that I have studied in the past. You don't need to be a scholar to enjoy the works here, nor do you need to see every single piece. Enjoy what you want and move on or take a rest. Feels great in the heat of the summer, interesting building, and hosts such an... More

World-class museum featuring the Dutch masters, very well organized, helpful audio tour, thoroughly renovated over the past decade and recently re-opened.

A well organized museum with an emphasis on the Dutch masters, as everyone has noted. The free app is pretty good and has a "family quest" game you can play as well. Keep in mind that you actually exit one section of the museum and then re-enter other sections, showing your tickets each time, as you move about the space.... More

Many many old masters and famous paintings. Big crowds can hinder viewing the most popular items. In July there were many summer touring groups.

As the title suggests, we arrived just on 9am and had breakfast in the cafe before we wandered about. It was lovely to just marvel at the enormous atrium before you get started and appreciate how much work went into the 10 year renovation! I liked how they have curated different artefacts with paintings and sculpture throughout the exhibits. Definitely... More

The beauty of the masterpieces is undeniable. The facility is excellent and the guides are great. I am just tired of art museums!

Enjoyed a few hours here in the newly refurbished Rijksmuseum. We used the free app and followed the highlights tour which lasted 1 1/2 hours - we could have spent much longer as the paintings in particular are stunning. We then enjoyed relaxing in the garden and watching people playing in the fountains. We had thought about eating in the... More

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighborhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
