We were 2 couples traveling in April, 2012 and secured a private tour with historywalks.com. As far as we were concerned this is one of the all time best walking tours ever!! Peter Schaapman does an outstanding presentation of the old sections of Amsterdam. His knowledge of history as it pertains to pre and post World War II is astounding.... More

We spend a great time walking through Amsterdam and learning all about the city and the Jewish people who were deported to the concentration camps. Peter, was excellent in his knowledge and attention to detail. We learned a lot on the walk. I am a Dutch national but my quests were Engiish. Although I ofcourse knew a little bit about... More

Ah, Peter. He is a passionate man about World War ll, and how its history reflects on Amsterdam. He is able to put you in the time and place with his picture library and dialogue. Excellent teacher of the misery of the people suffered, and how they now live above it. My husband and I both loved it! More

It was a pleasure spending the afternoon learning about Amsterdam's history with Peter. He is so knowledgeable. In addition to the great tour focusing on World War II, his package of written materials included restaurant and pub recommendations. We did the Anne Frank Haus tour the following day, but others in our walking tour group had done it the day... More

We were so glad we walked with Peter. Our time in Amsterdam was limited, arriving Saturday morning and leaving on a cruise Sunday afternoon. I was delighted when Peter responded to my email saying that he could do the walk Saturday afternoon at 1pm. It was rainy off and on, but Peter gave us an opportunity for a coffee midway... More

We went on Peter's tour on a rainy Friday - it really was a great way to spend two hours learning more about the history of the streets of Amsterdam and the impact of WW2. He was very knowledgeable and brought a local's view of the streets we walked. He used old photos and stories to really bring the impact... More
